About this skill
Problem
Baidu hot-search pages often contain dates, rotating items, popups, and dynamic rendering. A plain scrape may return stale lists, duplicated titles, or fewer than 10 entries. For engineers who only need today's hot headlines, the hard part is not opening the page but proving the data is fresh and structurally usable.
How It Works
The skill follows a low-cost-first strategy with browser fallback:
- Capability check: it detects whether browser is available in the environment.
- web_fetch first: it tries a lightweight fetch to reduce resource usage.
- Date validation: it extracts date signals from the page and compares them with today's YYYY-MM-DD value.
- Smart fallback: if web_fetch returns empty, fails, or looks stale, it retries with browser automation.
- Quality filtering: it extracts rank and title, removes irrelevant content, and checks for duplicates or missing entries.
Boundaries
It is useful for feeding Baidu hot headlines into logs, reports, pipelines, or downstream analysis, but it still depends on the source page structure. If the page changes, anti-bot protection increases, or the environment cannot reach the page, the skill may report failure or preserve only the available items; it does not perform semantic summarization, sentiment analysis, or cross-platform trend comparison.
Use Cases
- A public-opinion analyst needs to capture Baidu Hot Search Top 10 headlines for the daily report.
- A data-pipeline engineer needs to normalize hot-search titles into JSON entries and verify they are current.
- A content editor needs to scan Baidu hot topics in the morning and pick follow-up story ideas.
- A monitoring engineer needs automatic browser fallback when the page returns stale trend data.
Best For
- Public-opinion analysts: need same-day Baidu Hot Search Top 10 for topic notes and downstream analysis.
- Data engineers: need structured, validated hot-search entries and handling for failed or stale fetches.
- Content editors: need a quick read of today's hot topics to choose follow-up stories.
- Automation engineers: need same-day hot-search results or an explicit failure when browsers are unavailable.
