About this skill

Problem

In workplace disputes, household disagreements, persuasion, and debate, the failure is often not a lack of points but a poor sequencing of points. People may start with emotion, label motives, or jump straight to values, which turns discussion into confrontation. Reasoning Master structures a conversation so speakers can separate facts, logic, empathy, interests, rules, and values before drafting their message.

How It Works

The skill uses a six-dimension framework:

  • Facts: state what objectively happened, including time, place, people, sequence, and data, while avoiding 'you always' or 'you intentionally' style judgments.
  • Logic: check causality, conditions, inference, contradictions, and gaps, and spot common fallacies such as ad hominem, slippery slope, and false dilemma.
  • Empathy: acknowledge the other person's feelings, context, and face to reduce defensiveness.
  • Interests: compare individual and collective gains, short- and long-term costs, risks, and benefits, then look for workable trade-offs.
  • Rules: verify laws, policies, agreements, and commitments to define boundaries.
  • Values: raise principles such as honesty, fairness, and responsibility near the end, rather than using them as an opening attack.

The workflow is to identify the scenario, analyze all six layers, choose an entry point, draft the response, and prepare fallback strategies. For example, if the other person is emotional, start with empathy; if they are rigid, return to facts; if they focus on gain or cost, move to interests; if they ignore agreed terms, bring in rules.

Boundaries

This skill is useful for structuring difficult conversations, preparing negotiation notes, or reviewing conflicts after the fact. It is not a substitute for legal advice, formal arbitration, or counseling. Specific claims about statutes, company policy, or contract terms should be verified against the original source. It also works best as a shared framework for consensus-building, not as a one-sided persuasion tactic.

Use Cases

  • When a colleague claims your contribution in a project review, structure facts, evidence, and a clarification message.
  • When discussing household chores with a partner, organize commitments, fatigue, and long-term impact into separate layers.
  • When explaining a delayed delivery to a client, separate factual causes, contract terms, and compensation options.
  • During a design review, point out logical gaps without ad hominem attacks or emotional rebuttals.

Best For

  • Product managers who need to clarify accountability in cross-team coordination meetings.
  • Parents who want to discuss spending, chores, or education choices with family without escalating into a fight.
  • Business staff preparing renewal, pricing, or complaint-handling scripts for clients.
  • Engineers who need to rewrite design-review feedback so it is easier for teammates to accept.
