About this skill
Problem
Papers often hide the key decision points across the abstract, method, experiments, and conclusion. paper-summarizer helps AI students and engineers quickly extract a readable core from a PDF, arXiv link, or pasted text, especially for courses, projects, or literature reviews.
How It Works
The skill runs a simple pipeline:
- Fetch source content from a URL or user-provided text.
- Parse structure such as Title, Authors, Venue, Abstract, Problem, Methodology, Experiments, Results, and Conclusion.
- Generate a summary at three levels: Quick, Standard, and Deep Dive, with optional follow-up on architecture, math, or code notes.
It avoids inventing numbers. Results must be explicitly stated in the paper; otherwise the summary should mark them as not specified. The tone stays objective and factual, and the source, such as an arXiv ID or URL, is preserved.
Boundaries
Use it to triage papers, capture method claims, or build literature notes. It is not a substitute for close reading, proof auditing, or reproducing code. If the paper depends heavily on figures, appendices, or long derivations, only the information explicitly present in the processed text can be summarized.
Use Cases
- Extract the problem, method, and key results from an arXiv paper before deciding whether to read it closely.
- Build a course literature review by turning multiple papers into comparable summaries of methods, datasets, and metrics.
- Before choosing a project method, confirm the proposed algorithm, datasets, baselines, and reported results.
- Paste paper text and generate a structured note covering title, problem, method, experiments, and conclusions.
Best For
- AI undergraduates who need to decide quickly whether a paper is worth a close read.
- Course project members who need consistent summaries of several papers for a literature review.
- Thesis students selecting a method and checking the paper's algorithm, datasets, and results.
- Study group leads who want arXiv papers broken into problem, method, and results for discussion.
