About this skill

Problem: Unlabeled Cables Are Hard to Track

Desktops, drawers, and storage bins often mix USB-C, HDMI, ethernet, and charging cables. When devices, connectors, lengths, and use cases are separated, it becomes hard to tell which cable belongs to which device. This skill solves the identification step before cleanup: make cables readable and storage locations explicit.

How It Works: Labels, Groups, and Storage Map

The skill starts by asking for devices, cable types, colors, approximate lengths, and storage locations. It then groups cables by daily use, travel use, backup use, and unknown use. The main outputs are:

  • A printable label sheet sized for tape, tags, or small stickers, with label text usually including device name, connector type, and use context.
  • A drawer or desk storage map showing where each cable group should live, including an unknown cable parking lot with a review date.
  • A quick discard or donate checklist for duplicate or obsolete cables.

Boundaries

It is useful for home, office, or workstation cable organization, not electrical repair advice. It does not recommend modifying cables and warns against using damaged chargers or frayed cords. For circuit troubleshooting, hardware repair, or data-center cable management, use the appropriate specialized process.

Use Cases

  • A desk or drawer has mixed charging and interface cables that need printable labels showing device and use.
  • A home office tech setup needs cables grouped into daily, travel, backup, and unknown categories with a storage map.
  • Before moving or reorganizing a workstation, create a label sheet, drawer map, and discard/donate checklist.
  • Set up an unknown cable parking lot with a review date so unidentified cords are not lost again.

Best For

  • Home office users with messy desk cables who want to label and store them quickly
  • Frequent travelers with multi-device charging who need daily, travel, and backup cable groups
  • Workspace administrators who need labels and storage-location maps for multiple cables
  • People relocating or reorganizing desks who want duplicate cleanup and discard/donate decisions
