Problem It Solves
When a request asks to organize a desktop or Downloads folder, manually dragging files is slow and inconsistent. file-organizer turns that into a deterministic workflow: classify by file extension only, without editing file contents.
How It Works
- Path input: extract the target folder from the user message; ask if missing.
- Directory check: confirm the path exists and is a directory.
- Script execution: run
scripts/organize_files.pyto list files and classify extensions such as.docx,.png,.py,.zip,.mp4,.mp3, and.csv. - Folder placement: create or reuse folders for Documents, Images, Code, Archives, Videos, Audio, and Data.
- Report: summarize total moved files, counts per category, and unrecognized files placed in
Others.
Scope and Limits
It is useful for quick local folder cleanup, but not for complex permission issues, rename-conflict policies, or semantic content classification. The skill moves files rather than deletes them; unrecognized extensions go to Others, and the script skips its own directory to avoid recursive organization.
