About this skill
Problem
Time-series data often arrives as JSON, but demos, reviews, and dashboards need the trend to be readable at a glance. A plain scatter plot or line chart can feel flat, lacks animation and multi-series contrast, and makes extremes harder to spot. chart-animation turns the input data into a dark-themed animated trend chart and adds a static overview image for presentations, tech sharing, or data boards.
How It Works
The skill is built on the Python ecosystem and uses matplotlib, numpy, and pillow, with MP4 output when optional ffmpeg is available. The main workflow is:
- Load a JSON input file and auto-detect the Y axis range.
- Support up to 4 data series with distinct colors.
- Generate animation.gif and animation.mp4, with a default frame rate of 12 fps.
- Export overview.png as a 2x2 grid showing each series and marking Min/Max extremes.
- Accept options such as --title, --width, and --height to fit different presentation sizes.
Boundaries
It is suited to trend visualization, static summaries, and short video assets, not general BI, interactive querying, or database connectivity. If the data contains Chinese text, fonts such as PingFang SC or SimHei must be installed to avoid missing glyphs. The JSON structure should follow the expected schema, and complex nested or sparse time-series data is best cleaned first.
