About this skill

From vague goals to an executable plan

Promotion planning often stops at direction: an engineer may know they need data analysis, user research, or systems thinking, but not what to learn first, what evidence is needed, or when checkpoints occur. The Learning Path Planner converts role and target-level input into staged tasks, deliverables, review criteria, and resource lists. It does not output a generic course list; it treats different level transitions, such as P5→P6 versus P3→P4, as different gap types and designs the learning rhythm accordingly.

Core behavior and boundaries

The skill identifies role, current level, target level, weak spots, and time constraints, then matches gap types to learning formats. Courses fit knowledge gaps, hands-on projects fit skill gaps, case review and mentoring fit thinking and experience gaps. Typical output includes a path overview, stage breakdown, checkpoints, resource inventory, timeline, and personalized adjustment suggestions.

Use it when inputs are reasonably specific, such as current level, target level, and known weak areas. Without assessment data, it should produce a standard path first and recommend later personalization. Cross-level jumps, weekly effort below 5 hours, or missing resources should be flagged as constraints rather than presented as a fully sufficient plan.

Use Cases

  • A product manager preparing for P5 to P6 needs to turn weak user research and data analysis skills into staged tasks and review criteria.
  • A Java backend engineer moving from P3 to P4 needs a six-month path to independently own a microservice module.
  • A tech lead needs to prioritize and design individual growth paths for five engineers based on capability gaps.
  • A data-focused engineer needs to convert SQL, experiment design, and business analysis goals into an assessable phased plan.

Best For

  • Engineers preparing for promotion or transition who need level gaps broken into a learning plan
  • Product managers with weak user research or data analysis who want phased improvement
  • Tech leads who need to design individual growth paths for team members
  • Working learners who want mentoring, hands-on projects, and review checkpoints included
