About this skill

The Problem

Long computer sessions make it hard to know how much time actually went into study, programming, and leisure. Task lists capture explicit activities, but miss app switching, short study bursts, and fragmented entertainment. Manual review is easy to botch, especially when important apps are overlooked or different reporting periods use inconsistent rules.

How the Skill Works

Study Time Tracker turns computer app usage into analyzable time data. It monitors local app usage, groups study, programming, and leisure contexts, and produces reports by day, week, or month. A typical workflow is to trigger phrases such as track study time, generate a time report, or analyze usage time. The tool then aggregates app duration, share, and schedule distribution. If a saved file is needed, store_dir can point to the report directory; by default it does not write files. Its value is converting scattered app behavior into a comparable, reviewable time view.

Boundaries

This skill is best for personal PC usage analysis, not enterprise auditing or cross-device tracking. Accuracy depends on app recognition, context classification, and local record completeness. If app names are ambiguous, or one window serves both study and leisure, classification may be coarse. Reports emphasize time share, so they do not replace task completion, reading depth, code quality, or other outcome metrics.

Use Cases

  • Before final exam week, track daily study, programming, and leisure time to identify low-value blocks.
  • During monthly review, summarize monthly study, programming, and app usage shares into a time report.
  • While adjusting a schedule, inspect weekly app time allocation to check if coding and rest periods are balanced.
  • When building a personal time log, generate a weekly report and save it to a specified local directory.

Best For

  • Computer science students who need to review weekly study, programming, and leisure time
  • Graduate students who want to use personal time-share reports to adjust their schedules
  • Learners who want to summarize computer app usage records into monthly reports
  • Independent developers who need to compare coding and entertainment time allocation
