About this skill

Problem

Pricing used items usually comes down to concrete judgments: what the original price was, how long it has been used, what condition it is in, how much functional wear matters, and how low a price is needed for a quick sale. This skill turns that informal guesswork into a repeatable estimation flow instead of returning a single number. It fits common resale cases such as iPhone models, vacuums, game cards, and furniture.

How It Works

It follows item details → depreciation estimate → price range → selling strategy:
- Collect inputs: brand and model, original price, purchase date, usage frequency, appearance, and functional status.
- Apply category models: electronics, furniture, apparel, and other items are treated differently, accounting for battery wear, defects, flaws, and condition.
- Output ranges: distinguish quick-sale price from patient-sale price, and explain negotiation room and listing highlights.
- State limits: the estimate is advisory, does not query live market data, and does not handle appraisal, brokerage, recycling, or bulk disposal.

This is useful for pricing everyday used goods, not for collectibles, antiques, limited-edition sneakers, or rare artworks. If the original price is unknown, the skill can estimate a historical market price from brand and model, then adjust for condition.

Use Cases

  • Estimate a fair price range and quick-sale price before listing a one-year-old, lightly scratched iPhone 14 Pro on a resale platform.
  • Use furniture depreciation to set a price, negotiation room, and moving-cost reminder before quickly selling a three-year-old solid-wood bookshelf online.
  • Assess how battery degradation affects the resale value of a Dyson vacuum and draft an honest listing note with defect disclosure.
  • Decide whether unopened game cartridges and low-value items should be sold at a discount or given away to avoid high transaction costs.

Best For

  • Individual sellers listing used electronics on resale platforms who need a fair price range, quick-sale price, and negotiation guidance.
  • Households clearing out furniture and small appliances before moving or seasonal changes who need a sellable price and worth-selling judgment.
  • Sellers of items with battery wear, scratches, or functional defects who need pricing impact, disclosure wording, and listing strategy.
  • Resale operators clearing unopened cartridges, apparel, and small appliances in batches who need category-based initial pricing and selling advice.
