About this skill

Problem

Team brainstorming often stalls in undirected free discussion: topics are re-explained, senior speakers can suppress ideas, and the session ends with slogans instead of actionable outcomes. This skill treats a creative meeting as a process with inputs, phases, rules, and a required output.

How It Works

It first confirms the topic, group size, total time, and expected deliverable, then selects a method such as classic brainstorming, Six Thinking Hats, reverse ideation, or SCAMPER. It then produces an execution pack: timeline, facilitator scripts, participant rules, and an outcome template. Key constraints include separating divergent and convergent phases, allocating time by the minute, requiring at least Top 3 conclusions, and offering write, speak, and draw paths for quieter members.

Boundaries

It is intended for 3-8 person groups and requires a facilitator to enforce the rules. It does not replace a real timer and does not guarantee idea quality. For sessions under 20 minutes, decisions on an existing proposal, one-to-one discussions, or standard-answer technology selection, prefer a lightning round, decision matrix, structured conversation, or evaluation matrix instead.

Use Cases

  • Product team planning a 30-minute feature discussion needs divergent, convergent, and voting phases plus a Top 3 output.
  • Remote small group using a whiteboard needs anonymous writing rules, sharing flow, and a final convergence step.
  • Marketing ops designing campaign ideas needs a 20-minute lightning round, speaking rules, and a capture template.
  • Cross-functional team with a broad topic needs scoping and a solo-thinking-then-group-discussion cadence.

Best For

  • Product managers who must facilitate product idea sessions and keep discussion on track
  • Team leads running remote brainstorming and needing a clear convergence outcome
  • Marketing ops owners organizing campaign ideation and reusing facilitation templates
  • Facilitators reducing senior-authority bias in cross-functional discussion
