About this skill
Problem
Childcare guidance for ages 0-6 is often scattered, and useful advice depends on the child’s current month, feeding method, prematurity, and regional policy. New parents usually do not only lack information; they need a timeline-based companion that flags vaccine windows, sleep regressions, behavior changes, and preschool preparation at the right time. parenting-companion treats this as a state-driven workflow rather than a generic Q&A bot.
How It Works
- State capture: On first use, it asks for
baby_birth_date,province_city,is_first_child, prematurity weeks, feeding method, allergies, and siblings, then stores them inreferences/user_state.md. - Age and stage inference: It calculates actual or corrected age, determines the stage, and limits output to nearby months instead of dumping a full roadmap.
- Reminders and catch-up: It can activate daily tracking for vaccines, illness, sleep, toilet training, preschool adaptation, and new foods; after long gaps it reconstructs missed milestones before presenting current tasks.
- Lazy file loading: It loads
monthly_schedule.md,daily_tracking.md,anxiety_scenes.md, and related references only when needed to reduce context use.
Boundaries and Caveats
The skill is a parenting companion, not a medical diagnostic system. It should not prescribe medication, diagnose developmental delay, or replace pediatric care. Urgent symptoms such as breathing difficulty, seizures, or persistent high fever require immediate medical attention. Local enrollment and vaccine policies may need live lookup, so static guidance should not be treated as authoritative.
Use Cases
- New parents track a newborn's months and need stage-based feeding, sleep, and vaccine tasks.
- A baby at 8 months wakes more at night, and parents need sleep-regression guidance.
- Second-child parents compare preschool prep and sibling guidance for different ages.
- Childcare workers log age and allergy notes to outline an age-appropriate food intro.
Best For
- Parents of 0-1-year-olds who need milestone, vaccine, and sleep guidance.
- Parents of 1-3-year-olds seeking behavior, potty, and preschool transition help.
- Nannies or infant care workers who need age-based feeding and care checklists.
- Parents of multiples who need separate tracking of age, allergies, and priorities.
