About this skill

Problem Addressed

City-level weather summaries often list temperature, precipitation odds, and wind speed, but travelers need more specific judgments: whether a mountain route is safe in the afternoon, whether coastal camping should account for heavy rain or strong wind, or whether airport and station connections may be disrupted. This skill focuses on travel scenarios and converts the next 7 days of 3-hourly weather data into actionable planning guidance.

How the Skill Works

A caller provides a city name or city_id, and the skill uses scripts/travel_weather.py to retrieve and parse the weather results. The output is organized by date and time block. Key capabilities include:

  • Outdoor risk assessment: highlights sun exposure, heat stress, rain, and hypothermia risks.
  • Scenic-area planning: notes comfort, timing windows, and precautions.
  • Trip preparation: recommends clothing, rain gear, footwear, and sun protection.
  • Special activities: covers seaside, mountain, camping, and hiking considerations.
  • Travel connectivity: connects weather to airports, stations, and road travel.

Boundaries and Cautions

The skill is useful for pre-trip city-level planning, but it does not replace official weather alerts, geological hazard notices, or temporary scenic-area announcements. The guidance is oriented toward traveler experience and risk mitigation; for emergency response, medical risk, or mandatory restrictions, local authoritative sources take precedence.

Use Cases

  • When planning a summer hiking trip, decide which of the next 7 days and time windows suit departure and rain gear.
  • When arranging a 3-day coastal city itinerary, identify typhoon, heavy rain, and heat risks and shift beach activities.
  • When organizing an out-of-town team trip, prepare weather responses for airport pickup, local transit, and late return.
  • Before a camping event, confirm hypothermia, rainfall, and wind risk in 3-hour windows and create reminders.

Best For

  • Travel planners who need to turn 7-day weather into feasible family outdoor activity windows and fallback options.
  • Outdoor guides who need to assess risk windows for hiking or camping routes and prepare gear checklists.
  • Local tour coordinators who need to adjust attraction order and transfers to avoid heat or heavy rain.
  • Independent travelers who need 3-hour city weather to decide on rain gear, sun protection, or itinerary swaps.
