About this skill
The Problem It Solves
Japanese study often fails on subtle issues: wrong particles, unnatural verb conjugation, uncertain kanji readings, or direct translation from Chinese. This skill turns practice into concrete tasks—chat, sentence analysis, correction, and expression comparison—and produces structured feedback with translation, kana readings, grammar points, and memory anchors.
How It Works and Where It Fits
- Mode routing: First classify the user’s intent as casual chat, analysis, correction, or comparison; when the signal is ambiguous, it asks.
- Analysis mode: Returns a natural Chinese translation, kana readings and part-of-speech labels for kanji words, sentence-level grammar notes, and 2–3 key takeaways.
- Correction mode: Checks grammar, word choice, naturalness, and readings, then explains the cause, fix, and how to remember it.
- Reading verification: Can call
verify_readings.pyfor uncertain kanji readings. - Chat mode: Keeps replies short, follows the user’s language, and avoids unsolicited correction or stage directions.
It is useful for sentence breakdown, error review, and comparing expressions. It is not intended for system questions, roleplay requests, or non-Japanese tasks. Output avoids romaji, emoji, speaker labels, and parenthetical stage directions to keep feedback direct.
Use Cases
- During prep, submit a long Japanese sentence and request translation, furigana, particles, and conjugation notes.
- Review a self-written Japanese business email sentence by sentence for particles, naturalness, and fixes.
- Compare は, が, に, and で in specific examples to prepare class explanations.
- Practice casual Japanese chat with short replies and no unsolicited explanations or stage directions.
Best For
- Japanese beginners: need simple sentences broken into translation, kana, and N5 grammar points.
- JLPT test-takers: want self-written sentences checked for particles, conjugation, and naturalness.
- Japanese teachers: need structured comparisons of particles or keigo expressions.
- Self-learning engineers: converse in Japanese and want short, on-topic chat replies.
