Renovation quotes often hide issues in missing line items, mismatched scopes, and vague unit-price calculations. Homeowners frequently need a way to compare contractor quotes without turning every number into a negotiation. This skill treats a renovation quote as a checklist problem: identify what is included, what is ambiguous, and what should be verified before signing.

How It Works

The skill uses a built-in reference set covering how to read quotes, unit-price traps, budget pitfalls, plumbing and electrical costing, avoiding unnecessary costs, semi-packaged and full-packaged scopes, and kitchen/bathroom line items. For each question, it selects the relevant references and answers in a fixed structure:

• Direct answer: 3–5 sentences with the core conclusion.
• Detailed analysis: what the issue is, why it matters, and what to do.
• Action steps: a concrete checklist for the owner.
• Risk flags: key traps marked with ⚠️.

When reviewing a quote, it first checks whether the document is a detailed line-item budget, then compares project scope, material grades, workmanship notes, and cost basis. When comparing multiple contractors, it first verifies that the quotes use the same scope before highlighting price differences.

Boundaries

It is useful for quote triage, budget sanity checks, and preparation for contractor discussions. It should not be treated as legal, contractual, or construction-inspection advice. Conclusions depend on the area, materials, scope, and local market conditions supplied by the user. Without those details, it can explain how to judge a price, but not declare a specific number fair or unfair.
