Problem

Data slides often fail not because the numbers are wrong, but because the visual encoding is misleading: a funnel is described as a pie chart, 3D effects obscure comparison, stacked bars are read as plain bars, or a slide has no clear takeaway. This is common in reporting, review, and decision contexts. The skill helps engineers and analysts pinpoint chart selection, visual hierarchy, and narrative issues in PowerPoint files.

How it works

The workflow turns data storytelling heuristics into checkable steps:
- Inspect before analyzing: after reading text structure with python-pptx, generate thumbnails to confirm actual chart types such as funnels, sunbursts, and stacked charts. It cross-checks text and thumbnails to avoid relying only on extracted graphic labels.
- Review slide by slide: evaluate audience, core message, chart choice, data-ink ratio, restrained color, preattentive cues, and page conclusion.
- Report structured feedback: comment on context clarity, visualization effectiveness, minimalism, story logic, and design details.

Limits

It analyzes static PPT text and chart content only. It does not evaluate animations, guide specific Excel or charting tools, or enforce brand design rules. If thumbnails or slide images are missing, chart-type detection may be unreliable.
