About this skill

Problem It Solves

When raw data is available but the analysis is missing, Report Generator helps turn spreadsheets, business questions, and competitive clues into a structured readout. It is useful for shaping Excel data, public materials, and user-provided metrics into an executive summary, trend analysis, competitive comparison, industry view, and action items. It is not a crawler, BI dashboard builder, or final strategic decision tool.

How It Works

The skill usually starts by clarifying:
- Report type: industry research, competitive analysis, Excel interpretation, weekly/monthly reports, or business insights;
- Audience and purpose: boss, team, investors, or clients, which sets depth and tone;
- Core question: what decision the report should support, rather than listing every number.

It then builds an analytical framework, choosing methods such as comparison, trend, attribution, or extrapolation, and drafts sections including an executive summary, data context, conclusions, and recommendations. For visualization, it suggests chart types, such as trend lines for period-over-period change, matrices for feature differences, or funnels for conversion paths. Outputs should carry source notes, assumptions, and uncertainty.

Boundaries and Caveats

It does not access paid databases by default and does not guarantee data accuracy; high-stakes decisions need cross-checks. It is best for analytical drafts, report structure, and data interpretation frameworks, not for scraping, BI system setup, financial audit, or final strategy calls. Predictive content is an inference from historical data, not a factual forecast.

Use Cases

  • Turn competitor features, pricing, and user scale into a SWOT comparison.
  • Extract key metrics from sales spreadsheets to identify trends and anomalies.
  • Draft industry sizing, competitive landscape, and trend readouts from public sources.
  • Turn operational metrics into weekly or monthly reports with executive summaries.

Best For

  • SMB operations leads without dedicated data teams who need sales data turned into reportable conclusions.
  • Product managers who need competitive analysis from feature matrices and pricing signals.
  • Analysts or consultants who need a fast framework for industry research and competitor reviews.
  • Fundraising teams who need business data organized around investor focus areas and conclusions.
