When DSH is running long agent turns, background jobs, subagents, and workflows, stepping away for two minutes can mean missing an approval prompt or a job-completion signal. Most notification plugins lean on the browser Notification API, which silently fails once the tab is hidden, throttled, or the browser itself is closed. dsh-herald fixes the delivery architecture: the DSH host process raises the OS notification directly — PowerShell WinRT on Windows, osascript on macOS, notify-send on Linux — so the toast lands whether the browser is open, minimized, or fully closed.

Three independently toggleable channels keep things flexible: in-page toasts, browser-system banners, and host-direct OS notifications. When the host channel is active, the browser banner steps aside to avoid duplicates. The plugin also ships with anti-bombardment serialization, base64(UTF-16LE) injection safety, direction-encoded chimes (double-tap for approvals, ascending for replies, descending for failures), a 300-record persistent history with atomic writes and corrupt-file recovery, adaptive incremental polling, and a theme-aware bell panel with per-channel test buttons — all bilingual in Chinese and English.

dsh-herald is built for developers and power users who orchestrate multi-agent workflows in DSH, run background jobs lasting minutes to hours, or split notifications between a remote server and a local machine. Zero runtime dependencies beyond what DSH already ships; 108 unit tests cover the host queue, persistence, RPC wire-shape contracts, and the OS adapter.
