Preface

DeepSeek Harness (DSH) Desktop supports interface extensions via plugins, but defaults to the platform’s native color scheme. If you wish to apply a unified, character-themed visual style to the sidebar, input area, and chat pages—including full-window wallpapers, light/dark overlays, and everyday emoticons—without modifying the installation package or touching chat data, you must utilize the official ThemeRuntime and plugin injection mechanisms. The following section introduces the community-maintained dsh-vesna-theme, detailing what it is, its capabilities, and how to install or restore it.

What is this

dsh-vesna-theme is a theme plugin for DSH Desktop maintained by Mahiru0427 (the npm package name and installation identifier are both dsh-vesna-theme; the current Release package version is 0.3.5). It is categorized under “Fun Dress-up” in the community directory.

Plugin Positioning: It provides an independent theme for DeepSeek Harness Desktop featuring a hand-to-cheek character (well-received by users), borderless full-window wallpapers, six cartoon emoticons, and color schemes such as “Spring Light” and “Night Banquet Dark.” Images are embedded during the build, so no network loading is required. It does not access models, credentials, or chat files, nor does it replace program installation files.

Core Features

Color Schemes and ThemeRuntime

An entry for “Vesna Theme” appears in Settings → General, offering the following options:

  • Spring Light
  • Night Banquet Dark
  • Follow System
  • Default Colors

The plugin utilizes the official ThemeRuntime’s token override interface to adjust components that use platform CSS variables, such as the sidebar, reading area, input area, buttons, menus, links, and code blocks. Light/dark preferences are saved by DSH; character color schemes, wallpapers, and emoticon toggles are saved locally separately. Clicking “Default Colors” removes plugin color schemes and wallpapers and hides emoticons, while retaining the current native light/dark mode; it also supports reading the first version’s saved records.

Full-Window Wallpaper and Blur Overlays

The same wallpaper fills the outermost layer of the entire window; the chat viewport and message bubbles are transparent to avoid image repetition. The left column, top app control bar, and right toolbar employ 12px Gaussian blur and semi-transparent overlays (starting from v0.3.5, the blur backgrounds for the bottom bar and left column are unified to reduce seam color differences); input boxes, settings cards, and content tools maintain readable backgrounds. Light mode uses a creamy white overlay, while dark mode uses a navy blue overlay. The plugin respects the system “Reduce Transparency” preference.

Chat Box Visual Effects (v0.3.3+)

In Settings → Vesna Theme → Chat Box Effects, you can switch between:

  • Liquid Glass: Frost, smooth rounded corners, directional edge reflections, and slight background refraction (a web approximation referencing Apple design principles).
  • Gaussian Blur: 3px static blur and thin borders, with dynamic highlights and edge refraction turned off to reduce rendering overhead during fast scrolling.

The selected effect is automatically saved and requires no reset after restart; legacy settings default to retaining Liquid Glass.

Everyday Emoticons

Six emoticons are integrated at fixed positions, for example: Peace Sign → New Chat; Thinking → Welcome; Reading → File entry hover; Confused → Negative feedback hover; Thumbs Up → Positive feedback hover; Heart → Send. The homepage greeting is “What can I do for you, dear friend~”. The send button retains the small arrow, and controls like stop and delete retain native icons; in Default Colors or when emoticons are off, native functional controls are restored, preserving button events and accessibility names. Settings cards provide previews and independent toggles for wallpapers and emoticons.

License and Asset Disclaimer

The plugin code is licensed under MIT; it does not include rights to character names or character images. This is an unofficial theme. The community directory (such as the SkillHub Plugin Page) and GitHub have no affiliation with DeepSeek or High-Flyer officials.

Installation and Activation

The maintainer provides two paths in the README; installation commands should follow the original text. Do not use the old global CLI to modify Desktop configuration (if the local Desktop does not allow dsh plugin --profile desktop management, use the in-app plugin page).

Simplest Method: In the official Desktop Plugins → Add Plugin, enter the package name below to install. You can choose a mirror source in mainland China or the official npm source (new versions may have synchronization delays on mirror sources; this window is the official installer and does not imply the plugin has passed official market review).

dsh-vesna-theme

Package Installation Method:

  1. Download dsh-vesna-theme-0.3.5.tgz from the repository’s Releases.
  2. Open DeepSeek Harness Desktop → Plugins → Add Plugin and select the installation package.
  3. Click “Enable Now” after installation.
  4. Go to Settings → General Settings → Vesna Theme to select color schemes, wallpapers, and emoticon toggles.

The repository includes a pre-built lib/client.js, so general users do not need to compile it themselves. Maintainer documentation records that it has been actually installed and enabled in Desktop 0.2.0-rc.2; after upgrading the host application, the theme may need re-adaptation for message structures and CSS module roles.

If you wish to have DSH assist with installation within the desktop, you can send the instructions from the README to DSH (whether it can be completed automatically depends on current tool permissions):

Please help me install or update this DSH Desktop theme plugin: https://github.com/Mahiru0427/dsh-vesna-theme
Please download the latest Release tgz package, keep existing theme settings, and handle it according to the plugin installation method supported by the current Desktop version; do not use the old global CLI to modify Desktop configuration.

Typical Usage

  1. After installing and enabling the plugin, open Settings → General Settings → Vesna Theme.
  2. Select “Night Banquet Dark” or “Spring Light”, or choose “Follow System”.
  3. Turn on wallpaper and emoticon toggles as needed; select Liquid Glass or Gaussian Blur in “Chat Box Effects”.
  4. Use the emoticon-adorned new chat button in the sidebar, and the send area on the homepage or chat page; hovering or keyboard focusing can expand a larger emoticon preview (refer to the README interface adjustment instructions for specific sizes and positions).

To temporarily restore the native theme appearance: click Default Colors in the theme settings. Before uninstalling, it is recommended to restore defaults first, then disable or remove dsh-vesna-theme in Plugins, and exit and reopen the Desktop; local character theme selection records will be retained and can be reused upon reinstallation.

Use Cases and Notes

Who it’s for: Developers or heavy users who work long-term on DSH Desktop, want a unified visual style without forking the client, and accept the boundaries of an unofficial character theme where MIT covers only the code.

Permissions and Security: The plugin runs with the permissions of the current DSH Desktop process and injects client modules (such as @deepseek-ai/dsh-client-ui-theme) via Cordis patches. You should review the Source Repository and LICENSE yourself before installing.

Usage Notes (from maintainer instructions):

  • The readability of transparent chat content and glass effects is affected by the wallpaper; logic color contrast testing does not guarantee that any wallpaper will achieve 4.5:1.
  • Full-window wallpapers and backdrop-filter incur some overhead for the graphics card and system compositing; on narrow screens, the homepage input area has a minimum width of approximately 360px, and the layout is adaptive.
  • Issues such as hover flickering on send/stop buttons with full-window wallpapers have been fixed on Windows; macOS real-device experience is marked by the maintainer as still pending user confirmation.

Conclusion

dsh-vesna-theme encapsulates wallpapers, light/dark tokens, chat box glass/blur, and six everyday emoticons into an installable Desktop theme plugin with one-click default restoration. It is suitable for interface dress-up within the “everything is a plugin” DSH ecosystem without touching core data paths.
