Preface¶
When conducting long conversations with models in DeepSeek Harness (DSH), it is often necessary to ask follow-up questions regarding a specific response: concepts, implementation details, or further reading. Copying the entire segment to a new window loses the context; continuing to ask only within the main session tends to disrupt the main thread. The Codex desktop application once provided a “More details” style small window for discussion; the community plugin dsh-more-details (maintainer RZRZ-Q) brings a similar experience to DSH: after selecting text, a real DeepSeek web chat opens in the bottom right corner. Once the discussion is complete, you can return to the main draft via a reference card, and the main model can read the saved discussion snapshot on demand.
What is this¶
dsh-more-details is a DSH community plugin, categorized as a web-connected tool. In one sentence: select a segment of text, discuss it in an independent DeepSeek Web Chat, and bring the conclusions back to the current main session via reference cards. The project is hosted on GitHub, with the current release version v0.3.15 (Release), licensed under MIT. The README specifies it as a community plugin with no affiliation to DeepSeek or OpenAI. Directory page: SkillHub · dsh-more-details.
The interaction concept originates from Codex Desktop’s “More details”; the implementation is based on AHGGG/dsh-side-chat and references other community projects related to DeepSeek web integration (see repository Credits).
Core Features¶
The following capabilities are derived from the repository README. Before installation, please refer to the User Guide and Compatibility Notes.
Chat on the web side after selecting a segment¶
Select text in a completed message and click More details. The plugin will automatically send the selected text and source context to the DeepSeek official Web Chat. You can customize the instructions sent to the web chat in the Prompt; the repository defaults to Chinese instructions.
Start new or continue discussions¶
Within the panel, you can use New Chat to start a blank session or use History to reopen past discussions and continue asking follow-up questions, avoiding starting from scratch every time.
Bring back to main session: Reference cards¶
Click Add to DSH to attach the current web discussion to the main draft as a reference card. You can preview it, send it along with your question, or click the card later to reopen the corresponding web chat.
Main model reads snapshots on demand¶
The model in the main session can retrieve captured discussion content via the read_webchat_reference tool (the README states this remains available after restart). The reference saves a snapshot of the currently rendered text, not the full account history; you decide when to send the main draft, and continuing to chat on the web side does not alter the saved snapshot.
Panel and login status¶
The web panel requires DSH Desktop. It can restore valid web login status, site language, and panel dimensions; it supports resizing via drag-and-drop, as well as expanding or collapsing. Plugin controls follow DSH’s English or Chinese interface settings.
Coexistence with other selection actions¶
In addition to More details, it provides Add to chat (attaches reference and comments) and Ask in side chat (opens a temporary side chat with the DSH configured model). If the AHGGG plugin from the same source is installed, it is officially recommended to disable it to avoid duplication in the selection menu.
Installation and Activation¶
Officially supported DSH Desktop versions: 0.2.0-rc.2, 0.2.1-alpha.4, 0.2.1-rc.1, 0.2.1-rc.2. Verified on macOS arm64; Windows and Linux are unverified. The web panel is only available on Desktop; see validation records for details.
Installation steps (consistent with README Get started):
- Download
dsh-more-details-0.3.15.tgzfrom the v0.3.15 release page. - In DSH, open Plugins → Add plugin and select the package to install. If the AHGGG plugin from the same source is installed, please disable it first.
- Completely exit and reopen DSH.
- Click New Chat in the panel and complete the login within the webpage (this login is independent of the model configuration in DSH).
For Discover installation, Desktop CLI, and upgrade methods, see Installation and Upgrades.
Typical Usage¶
After the installation and login described above, you can operate according to the workflow in the README:
- Select the paragraph you want to refine in a completed reply and click More details. Save your frequently used instructions in the Prompt if necessary.
- Continue asking questions in the Web Chat at the bottom right; retrieve old discussions from History if needed, or use New to start a new session.
- Once satisfied with the discussion, click Add to DSH, confirm the target session, and send the reference card along with your new question to the main model.
- Later, you can click the reference card to return to the web chat; to allow the main model to reference the full text of the saved discussion, rely on
read_webchat_reference(behavior depends on the current DSH and plugin versions).
Data flow explanation: Selection and context are sent to DeepSeek; references are snapshots, not the full account history. See Data flow and storage for details.
Use Cases and Notes¶
Target Audience: Developers or heavy DSH users who need to open a “real web” DeepSeek chat alongside the DSH main session without losing selected context, and wish to bring side chat results back to the main draft structurally. It is categorized as a web-connected tool; the side chat depends on external network and DeepSeek website availability.
Environment and Permissions: The plugin runs under DSH process permissions; you should read the source code, MIT License, and Data Privacy Statement before installation. For non-macOS arm64 or unlisted Desktop versions, please check the compatibility documentation before deciding whether to use it.
Ecosystem Note: DSH adheres to “everything is a plugin”; community directories like SkillHub are independent sites and are not official DeepSeek or High-Flyer (Hifn) application stores.
Conclusion¶
dsh-more-details ties together the workflow of “Select segment → Detailed web chat → Reference back to main session” into a fixed process, supporting history reopening and on-demand reading via read_webchat_reference.
