Preface¶
When self-teaching swimming or practicing alone for a long time, a common issue isn’t “not knowing what to fix,” but rather being unable to articulate exactly where the mistake is, what to fix first, or how to practice in the water. Online tutorials are often too generic, and private coaches aren’t always available. If you are already using an AI client that supports Skills, you can delegate “stroke diagnosis + breakdown drills + progress criteria” to a structured Skill. This allows the conversation to follow a fixed procedure rather than improvising from scratch every time.
Below, we introduce the SkillHub community skill Swimming Technique Correction (Coordinate: @user_70c2f807/swimming-technique-coach, Version 1.0.0), explaining what it does, how to install it, and typical ways to ask questions.
What is this¶
Swimming Technique Correction is an Agent Skill based on the general SKILL.md format. It is maintained by the community publisher user_70c2f807, categorized as life-service on SkillHub, and tagged with a source of community. The Skill page indicates requires_api_key=false, meaning no additional API Key is needed after installation.
Positioning (excerpted from Skill description): Based on textual descriptions of movement issues provided by the user, it offers targeted improvement suggestions and practice methods. It covers technical essentials, breathing coordination, and common error correction for Freestyle, Breaststroke, Butterfly, and Backstroke, aiming to improve swimming efficiency and water sense.
Trigger scenarios (stated in the Skill): Use this when users mention swimming techniques, stroke correction, specific stroke names, breathing difficulties, kicking issues, or express a desire to improve movement form. It is not intended for competitive specialized coaching, lifeguard certification, or pool venue recommendations.
Core Features¶
The following capabilities are derived directly from the installed Skill content, with no additional extensions:
- Four-Stroke Analysis: Technical problem review for Freestyle, Breaststroke, Butterfly, and Backstroke.
- Common Error Diagnosis: Identifying errors such as lifting the head to breathe or scissor kicks, and explaining compensation patterns.
- Practice Design: Land-based aids and in-water drills, including practice sequences and combination suggestions.
- Breathing and Respiration: Guidance on rhythm, exhalation timing, and head rotation for breathing.
- Efficiency and Planning: Ideas for improving stroke efficiency and arranging practice schedules for technical improvement phases.
- Structured Output: Replies are organized as “Problem Analysis → Technical Diagnosis → Correction Plan (broken down by drill item) → Progress Criteria → Precautions.” It also includes built-in prompts and FAQs for scenarios like vague descriptions, complete beginners, shoulder pain, and open water swimming.
The Skill explicitly states its limitations at the beginning of the text: It cannot view real movements, so accuracy depends on the quality of the description; it cannot replace in-person water instruction; users must already possess basic floating and breathing abilities; and individual differences affect technical details. When writing or forwarding to users, these boundaries should be explained as well.
Installation & Activation¶
Method 1: SkillHub CLI (Recommended)¶
First, confirm whether skillhub is installed on your machine (see the SkillHub Installation Documentation for the full process):
command -v skillhub && skillhub --version
If not installed, you can run the official one-click script (internet connection required):
curl -fsSL https://skillhub-1388575217.cos.ap-guangzhou.myqcloud.com/install/install.sh | bash
When installing a skill, you must use the --dir flag to point to the current Agent’s skills directory; SkillHub documentation notes that installing to the default ./skills/ might not be recognized by the client.
The official installation command for this skill is:
skillhub install swimming-technique-coach --namespace user_70c2f807 --dir <skills directory>
Common client skills paths (excerpted from SkillHub installation documentation):
- Cursor:
~/.cursor/skills/ - Claude Code:
~/.claude/skills/ - Codex:
~/.codex/skills/or.agents/skills/under the project
Replace <skills directory> with the corresponding path for your current environment and execute. After installation, refresh or restart according to your client’s requirements to load the Skill.
Method 2: Ask the AI to install via official prompt¶
The installation prompt provided on the SkillHub skill page is: Please install @user_70c2f807/swimming-technique-coach according to https://skillhub.cn/install/skillhub.md. You can send this sentence to an Agent connected to Skill installation capabilities, allowing it to complete the installation in the correct directory.
Typical Usage¶
Once the Skill is enabled, simply describe your stroke and the sticking point in natural language. The examples listed in the “Quick Start” section of the Skill can be reproduced directly:
User: I keep swallowing water when breathing in freestyle, how do I fix it?
User: My breaststroke kick feels inefficient, I never seem to move forward.
User: Freestyle kicking is exhausting but I'm not moving forward.
User: I want to learn butterfly, what are the key technical points?
User: I get tired after swimming 500 meters, how can I improve endurance?
The Agent will execute according to the three steps defined by the Skill: Problem Identification (stroke, level, environment, video availability) → Technical Analysis (causes, principles of correct movement, breakdown correction) → Practice Suggestions (drills, land-based exercises, sequence, and progress criteria). The more specific you are about your physical sensations (e.g., whether you splash on hand entry, the degree of head rotation while breathing), the closer the diagnosis will be to the Skill’s design goals.
Applicable Scenarios & Notes¶
Who is it for
- Users who can already float and have basic breathing skills, and want to correct specific parts of a stroke.
- Self-practitioners who need to break down problems like “swallowing water,” “kicking without moving,” or “ineffective kicking” into actionable drill lists.
- Practitioners who want to get weekly progress reference standards in the conversation and distinguish between technical practice and aerobic training rhythms.
Who it is NOT for / Needs other channels
- Complete beginners who cannot float (the Skill suggests taking introductory lessons first).
- Competitive specialization or precision video analysis level improvement (requires professional coaches and data).
- Sports medicine issues like swimmer’s shoulder or back injuries (should seek medical attention; the Skill only suggests resting and adjusting technical thinking when in pain).
- Open water safety and lifeguard training (the Skill only supplements technical reminders and does not replace specialized courses).
Usage Notes
- Since there is only text and no video, the Skill itself notes that analysis accuracy is limited; descriptions of side-view or underwater video would be more reliable.
- Focus on 1-2 technical points each time to avoid confusion caused by changing too many things at once.
- Pay attention to safety during in-water practice: do not practice alone, know the pool depth, and stop immediately if you feel dizzy; the Skill output emphasizes acting within your limits.
The SkillHub page currently displays: Rating 100000, Downloads 920 (statistics are based on the page and will change over time).
Conclusion¶
Swimming Technique Correction converges stroke problems into a repeatable conversational flow: first clarify the stroke and chief complaint, then provide cause explanations and step-by-step drills, accompanied by progress standards and safety tips. If you use an environment supporting Skills like Cursor, Claude Code, or Codex, you can install it to the corresponding skills directory using the command above and try it out with specific scenarios.
