Introduction¶
When coding, writing documentation, or designing solutions, phone notifications and instant messages can easily pull your attention away. Common practices include manually enabling Do Not Disturb mode and tracking Pomodoro timers yourself, but deciding time slots, configuring the environment, and knowing how long you actually focused today still largely rely on self-discipline, and they don’t integrate with AI conversations.
Below we introduce the community Skill “Focus Mode” (coordinates @user_70c2f807/focus-mode) from SkillHub. It targets scenarios where “you’re easily distracted by phones and notifications and want to improve deep work efficiency.” Through conversation, it helps set focus periods, provides white noise recommendations, and records focus duration. The tag indicates requires_api_key=false, meaning it doesn’t depend on additional API keys.
What Is This¶
“Focus Mode” is a community Skill under the life-service category on SkillHub, published by user_70c2f807, currently at version 1.0.0, sourced from community.
The official description summarizes it as: helping users enter a focused working state by setting focus periods, providing white noise recommendations, and recording focus duration, solving the problem of being easily interrupted by phones and notifications, and improving deep work efficiency.
The Skill itself follows the standard SKILL.md format. After being loaded by an Agent that supports Skills (such as Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, etc.), it guides users through the above tasks in conversation according to the instructions within the Skill.
Core Features¶
The following capabilities are all derived from the introduction on the SkillHub page and metadata; implementation details have not been separately expanded:
- Focus Period Setting: Negotiate with the user or suggest an actionable focus time window based on needs, facilitating entry into a deep work state.
- White Noise Recommendations: When environmental distractions need to be blocked, provide recommendations for using white noise background sounds (specific tracks or tools are subject to the guidance within the Skill).
- Focus Duration Recording: After or during a focus session, help summarize the current focus duration, facilitating review of deep work time throughout the day or week.
This Skill does not declare the need for an API Key. Installation and usage are primarily based on local Agents and the SkillHub CLI, with no additional key configuration items appearing in the public metadata.
Installation and Activation¶
The installation method provided on the official SkillHub page is: let your current AI handle it according to the SkillHub installation documentation, and specify the skill coordinates.
Method 1: Prompt Installation (Page Recommended)¶
Send the following prompt to an AI that supports Skills (Cursor, Claude Code, Codex CLI, etc.):
Please install `@user_70c2f807/focus-mode` according to https://skillhub.cn/install/skillhub.md.
The Agent will follow the documentation to check the skillhub CLI, select the appropriate skills directory for the current environment, and complete the installation.
Method 2: SkillHub CLI¶
If skillhub is already available on your machine, you can first check the version:
command -v skillhub && skillhub --version
If not installed, you can follow the SkillHub installation documentation to perform a full installation (the example below is the recommended command from the official documentation):
curl -fsSL https://skillhub-1388575217.cos.ap-guangzhou.myqcloud.com/install/install.sh | bash
When installing the skill, you must use --dir to point to the actual skills directory used by your current Agent. Otherwise, it will default to ./skills/, and the Agent may not recognize it. Common paths listed in the official documentation include:
- Cursor:
~/.cursor/skills/ - Claude Code:
~/.claude/skills/ - Codex:
~/.codex/skills/or.agents/skills/under the project
Once the corresponding directory has been confirmed, the installation command looks like:
skillhub install @user_70c2f807/focus-mode --dir ~/.cursor/skills/
Replace ~/.cursor/skills/ with the actual path of your current client. After installation, restart or refresh the Skills list according to your client’s instructions to enable “Focus Mode.”
Typical Usage¶
The public page does not include a standalone example repository; typical usage is to explain your current task and sources of distraction in natural language after the Skill has been enabled, and let the Agent execute the workflow according to SKILL.md. Example questioning approaches that align with the official description include:
- Describe the deep work you plan to do next (e.g., “writing a design document for the next 90 minutes”), and ask the Skill to help define a focus period and remind you to reduce notification distractions.
- When you need to block out environmental noise, ask the Skill for white noise recommendations and minimize topic switching during the focus period.
- After the focus session ends, ask the Skill to help record the focus duration based on the conversation, facilitating later statistics.
Specific steps and script templates are subject to the local SKILL.md after installation; this article does not fabricate configuration fields or script names that do not appear in the official materials.
Use Cases and Notes¶
Who Is It For
- Developers, writers, product and design professionals who often work from home or in open office areas and are easily interrupted by phone and system notifications.
- People who already use Skills in environments like Cursor, Claude Code, or Codex and want to consolidate “setting periods + environment recommendations + recording duration” into a single conversational workflow.
Limitations and Notes
- Community-sourced (
community), so maintenance frequency and the downloads/ratings displayed on the page may change; at the time of retrieval, the version was 1.0.0, and ratings and download counts are subject to the SkillHub live page. - The Skill provides planning, recommendations, and recording assistance; it cannot replace system-level Do Not Disturb, app locks, or physical isolation; white noise needs to be implemented by the user in a player or application.
- If the CLI is installed to the wrong directory, the Agent will not load the Skill. Make sure to use
--diraccording to the SkillHub installation documentation.
Conclusion¶
“Focus Mode” consolidates focus periods, white noise recommendations, and duration recording into a single life-service Skill, suitable for reducing interruptions in existing Agent workflows and leaving behind reviewable deep work records. For installation and details, see SkillHub:
