Introduction

DeepSeek Harness (DSH) follows the “everything is a plugin” philosophy. When an agent discovers a capability gap while executing tasks and the community lacks a corresponding plugin, self-iteration-forge provides an automated solution. It allows the AI to invoke tools, have a subagent develop the missing functionality, migrate it into a standalone git repository, automatically commit the code, and hot-mount it into the current runtime.

Core Features

The plugin is maintained by csiroqa (MIT license) and primarily addresses the engineering of extending agent capabilities.

  1. Capability gap discovery and generation: The AI autonomously identifies the need and generates code through a subagent.
  2. Lifecycle management: Generated plugins are automatically migrated to dsh-plugins/<name>, with git initialization and commits performed.
  3. Immediate integration: Supports automatic installation into the profile and hot-mounting into the current session without requiring a restart.
  4. Unified ledger: Tool-call counts for all plugins are aggregated into $DSH_HOME/storages/plugin-call-stats.json, and can be summarized via commands.
  5. Bootstrapping: The plugin itself supports bootstrapping, iterating and evolving by invoking its own capabilities.

Installation and Activation

Prerequisites: Node ≥ 22, pnpm, a local checkout of deepseek-harness.

pnpm install && pnpm build
dsh plugin --profile web add link:D:\2-OGP\self-iteration-forge

After installation, dsh web must be restarted.

Usage

Tool Invocation

Use the tool extend_self (alias add_capability) to have a subagent develop a new capability.

Parameter description:
* requirement: Plugin requirement (required).
* name: Repository directory name (auto-derived, kebab-case).
* migrate: Whether to migrate to a standalone repository (default true).
* update: Whether to update an existing repository (default false).
* install: Whether to install into the profile (default automatic).
* hot: Whether to hot-mount (default true).

Command-line Monitoring

  • Status query: /self-iteration status (equivalent to bare /self-iteration).
    The output includes the repository path, HEAD commit information, workspace status, cumulative call count, etc.
  • Statistics query: /self-iteration stats [plugin name].
    Displays plugin/tool call details in descending order by call count.
  • Statistics reset: /self-iteration stats reset [plugin name].

Configuration

Configure parameters in cordis.patch.yml to override default behavior.

Parameter Default value Description
targetRoot project root/dsh-plugins Root directory for plugin migration
stagingRoot workspace/.forge-staging Staging directory for subagent development
harnessRoot auto-detect deepseek-harness checkout path
subagentProvider spawn Subagent provider
maxChildDepth 2 Maximum delegation depth for subagents
childTimeoutMs 2700000 Subagent/build timeout
commitType feat Conventional Commit type
push false Whether to push after commit
gitAuthorName csiroqa Git commit author name
gitAuthorEmail justinwangyj@163.com Git commit author email
keepStaging true Whether to keep the staging directory
stagingTtlDays 0 Staging retention days; cleaned up before startup when > 0
installProfile auto-detected Explicitly specified profile name
autoInstall true Automatically install into the profile after success

Notes and Security

  1. Alias transition: add_capability is a transitional alias; the ledger records counts by the actually invoked name.
  2. Dependency restriction: Registry-version @deepseek-ai/* dependencies are rejected.
  3. Commit control: push is disabled by default, in compliance with AGENTS.md specifications.
  4. Error handling: Any build or load failure is swallowed and does not affect tool execution; the staging directory is retained for troubleshooting.
  5. Security:
    • Subagents write only to the staging directory.
    • A diff check is performed before committing; build artifacts and dependencies are excluded through .gitignore.
    • forge invokes subagents and performs git operations only when receiving trusted requirements.
