Introduction¶
DeepSeek Harness (DSH) adopts a plugin-based architecture, allowing developers to extend host capabilities. In personal knowledge management, entering and memorizing new English words is a frequent requirement. dsh-word-vault, maintained by developer wangzhanchao883, is an English vocabulary plugin designed for multi-user scenarios. It addresses the low efficiency of traditional “manual typing entry” in word books and the inability to use LLM assistance to generate memory content. Through clipboard monitoring, pop-up selection, and SQLite persistence, it provides a closed-loop toolchain from entry to review and testing.
Core Features¶
The plugin provides the following capabilities:
* Multi-user management: Supports maintaining separate vocabulary banks for different users.
* Hands-free entry: Monitors the clipboard, automatically shows a pop-up after copying for users to select and save words, reducing mistaken entries.
* LLM assistance: Automatically translates words and generates word breakdowns, fun mnemonics, and example sentences.
* Persistence and queries: Stores data in SQLite and supports querying by time, frequency, and mastery level.
* Memory cards: Generates fun memory cards in HTML, PDF, and Word formats.
* Exam loop: Provides online quizzes; three consecutive correct answers automatically mark a word as mastered.
* Text-to-speech: Integrates Windows built-in speech (SAPI) for offline pronunciation of words and example sentences.
* Photo recognition: Supports marking printed words in photos and extracting them.
Installation and Activation¶
The plugin is compatible with DSH 0.2 and later versions (0.1.7 is also compatible). Run the following command in the DSH CLI to install it:
dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-word-vault@1.0.2
After installation, the settings panel loading logic varies depending on the DSH version (see the notes below).
Entry Workflow¶
By default, the plugin uses a “clipboard monitoring + pop-up selection” interaction model to ensure that only user-confirmed words are saved.
- Monitoring: The resident assistant (PowerShell) monitors clipboard changes.
- Tokenization: After text is detected, the host splits it into words.
- Pop-up: A dialog appears at the mouse position, listing recognized words (e.g.,
plant world share animal). - Selection: The user clicks the corresponding username button to save the words.
- Feedback: A success feedback is displayed in the same window (e.g., “12 words entered today”) and disappears automatically within 20 seconds.
Three scenarios where words are not saved:
* The user does not perform a selection.
* The user clicks “Ignore”.
* No response is received within 20 seconds after the pop-up appears.
If you prefer a “copy-to-save” workflow, enable the autoCommit option in the settings.
Tool Commands¶
The plugin provides a set of tool commands for use in conversations or scripts:
- Entry:
wordvault_add- Adds an English passage to a specified user’s vocabulary bank (tokenization -> translation -> persistence). - Query:
wordvault_query- Queries by time range, frequency, and mastery status. - Status:
wordvault_status- Views vocabulary bank statistics, assistant status, and recent logs. - Export cards:
wordvault_export_cards- Generates HTML / PDF / Word memory cards. - Exam:
wordvault_exam_start- Opens the online quiz page;wordvault_exam_result- Views the list of incorrectly answered questions. - Photo scan:
wordvault_scan_photo- Recognizes marked words in photos.
Memory Cards and Speech¶
Memory cards can be exported in HTML, PDF, and Word formats, with 8 cards per page (portrait A4). Each card includes the heading word, breakdown blocks, an absurd mnemonic (to aid memorization), and an English example sentence at a 7th-grade difficulty level. A 🔊 button is placed next to the card and example sentence, allowing users to invoke Windows built-in speech (SAPI) for read-aloud. Background pre-warming is supported for instant startup.
Exam Loop¶
The online quiz uses single-choice questions. The prompt is an English sentence containing the target word, followed by a request to identify the word meaning. The system automatically calculates mastery; a word is marked as “Learned” after 3 consecutive correct answers.
Notes¶
- DSH version compatibility:
- DSH 0.2+: Fully supported, including the browser-based settings panel.
- DSH 0.1.5: Tools and pages are usable, but the settings panel will not appear (due to the missing
configFormsservice). - DSH 0.1.7: Compatible.
- Resident assistant: Must run on PowerShell.
- Speech dependency: The read-aloud feature only supports
en-*language packs; it reports an explicit error if none are installed. - License: No specific license information is currently mentioned.
Conclusion¶
By combining clipboard monitoring with LLM assistance, dsh-word-vault reduces the friction of entering new words and provides a practical review plan through structured memory cards and the exam system. It is suitable for developers and learners who need to manage multilingual knowledge bases.
