Introduction¶
In the DeepSeek Harness (DSH) development environment, switching to an external reader to read local books can interrupt the workflow. This plugin provides a floating ball in the bottom-right corner of the DSH interface for managing a local book list and automatically moving the reader window back to a preset position, reducing disruptions from UI switching.
Plugin Overview¶
unsiscon/dsh-novel-launcher is a plugin for the DSH client environment. It addresses the need for reading between agent development sessions, supports scanning local libraries and searching in multiple ways, does not fetch web novels, and keeps all data local.
Core Features¶
- Bottom-right floating ball: Persists in the bottom-right corner of the interface without taking up layout space; click to expand the book list.
- Local book list scanning: Scans a specified library directory and lists supported e-book formats.
- Three-way search: Supports searching book titles by Chinese (
魔界), full Pinyin (mojie), and initials (mjd). - Continue reading: Displays the most recent reading progress at the top; click to jump back quickly.
- Window repositioning: After opening a book in an external reader, the window is automatically moved to a preset position, and the previous window is collapsed.
- Theme following: Automatically adapts to DSH light and dark themes.
- Automatic closing: Supports closing the book list by clicking outside the area, pressing Esc, or after selecting a book.
Installation and Activation¶
Install using the official CLI:
dsh plugin --profile web add github:<you>/dsh-novel-launcher
After installation, restart dsh web and refresh the browser; a floating ball icon will appear in the bottom-right corner.
Typical Usage¶
- Configure the library: The first click on the floating ball opens the settings page automatically. Specify the library directory and reader configuration (process name, Bundle ID, and .app path).
- Search for books: Enter a book title in the floating ball panel. You can search by Chinese, Pinyin, or initials.
- Continue reading: Click the “Continue Reading” item at the top to open the book from your last session directly.
- Reposition the window: Click a book in the list to open it with the configured reader. The plugin automatically moves the window to the preset position.
Use Cases and Notes¶
- Platform differences: The floating ball, search, and book list features support all platforms. Window repositioning and Pinyin search support macOS only and require system “Accessibility” permission.
- Privacy and security: Runs purely locally and does not upload any data. The configuration file is located at
$DSH_HOME/novel-launcher/config.json. - Feature limitations: Fetching web novels is not supported; use a local reader. The window repositioning feature is automatically hidden on Windows/Linux platforms.
Architecture¶
The plugin uses a dual-part architecture and communicates over HTTP:
* Host part: Handles directory scanning, Pinyin calculation, reader database probing, and window assistant management.
* Browser part: Handles the floating ball UI and book list interactions.
In Short¶
This plugin provides DSH users with a low-interruption local reading integration solution. For more details, see the GitHub repository.
