Introduction¶
DeepSeek Harness (DSH) uses a plugin-based architecture, allowing developers to extend functionality by adding plugins. dsh-waaagh-ork is a plugin maintained by oopsylol, designed to enhance the DSH experience with visual elements. Its core idea is to mask model output during AI coding with the green text “Waaaaaaagh!!!” and to inject a line-art green-orc mascot into the interface, simulating a “WAAAGH!” coding atmosphere.
Core Features¶
The plugin mainly includes the following features:
- Interface visual overhaul
The input box is restyled as a comic speech bubble, and the main send button becomes a green “Waaagh!” pill. While the model is thinking or outputting, the content is replaced by a green “Waaaaaaagh!!!” mask; clicking it reveals the original text. - Green orc mascot
A line-art green-orc head is displayed on the left side of the interface. It has three states:- Waiting: sitting on the ground, scratching its belly, with a 5-second blink cycle.
- Working: crouching in front of a laptop, typing, flinging sweat, and roaring with its mouth open, totaling 8 frames.
- Failure: holding its head in panic for 4.2 seconds, while the speech bubble border turns red.
The size and position of the orc mascot are determined through JS calculations, ensuring it does not cover the input box or sidebar.
- Tribal color schemes
Six tribal color schemes are supported (Goffs / Bad Moons / Evil Sunz / Deathskulls / Snakebites / Blood Axes), implemented through hue rotation, with color choices based on measured hue values (0.299). - Title and process
When the model is running, “WAAAGH! · ” is added as a prefix to the taskbar or tab title. The icons for process lines (such as reading files and writing files) are replaced with the green-orc head, and the text is replaced with random roars. - Interaction details
Clicking the orc mascot triggers a “shout” animation (purely decorative and does not interfere with the input box). The plugin does not modify the input draft, and the content sent remains the original text.
Installation and Enabling¶
The installation method depends on the runtime environment of DSH.
Web environment¶
dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-waaagh-ork
After installation, restart dsh web and refresh the page.
Desktop environment¶
The desktop version uses the ~/.dsh/profiles/desktop configuration profile.
- Install via the interface: In the desktop version settings, find the plugin option and install
dsh-waaagh-ork. - Manual configuration: Edit
~/.dsh/profiles/desktop/package.json, add the dependency and specify the bundle:
{
"dependencies": { "dsh-waaagh-ork": "^0.2.0" },
"dsh": { "profile": { "bundles": ["@deepseek-ai/dsh-base", "@deepseek-ai/dsh-web-app", "dsh-waaagh-ork"] } }
}
Then use the pnpm included with the desktop version to install dependencies and restart.
Local development¶
dsh plugin --profile web add link:/path/to/dsh-waaagh-ork
The desktop version and CLI work similarly. When using a link: path, the plugin loads the source from the working copy.
Compatibility and Requirements¶
The plugin has explicit requirements for the runtime environment and DSH version:
- DSH version:
- Web environment: 0.1.6-alpha.2 or later
- Desktop environment: 0.2.0-rc.2
- Runtime dependencies:
- Node.js >= 20
- Volcano Ark credentials (for generating mascot assets)
Development and Build¶
The plugin source code is located in the src/ directory. Build artifacts (such as sprite images) are located in lib/ and src/assets/, and these files are read directly during installation, with no build step required.
The main development commands include:
pnpm install # 安装依赖
pnpm run typecheck # 类型检查
pnpm run check-assets # 校验精灵图尺寸与帧数
pnpm run build # 构建
pnpm run verify # 验证构建产物与源码一致
pnpm run smoke # 回归测试(需运行中的实例)
The mascot assets are generated through the scripts/mascot.py script, which calls Volcano Ark’s doubao-seedream-4-0 model to generate frame images with a pure magenta background. The script then removes the background, resizes the frames, and composites them into a sprite sheet.
Conclusion¶
dsh-waaagh-ork is a DSH plugin focused on visual experience. By masking model output and replacing UI elements with a green-orc theme, it provides developers with a differentiated coding environment. All features are implemented without disrupting the core development workflow. For more details or to view the source code, you can visit the plugin directory or the GitHub repository.
