Introduction

DeepSeek Harness (DSH) uses a plugin-based architecture, allowing developers to extend its capabilities through community plugins. dsh-provider-veark is a plugin maintained by IcedWatermelonJuice, designed to address the insufficient native support in DSH for the Volcano Ark Coding Plan and to integrate Volcano Ark’s text, image, and PDF document understanding capabilities. It uses the official Volcano Responses API and Coding gateway, and implements an optimization that uploads images to the Ark Files API first.

Core Features

  • Multimodal Understanding: Supports understanding of text, images, and PDF documents.
  • Official Interfaces: Uses the official Volcano Responses API and Coding gateway.
  • Image Optimization: Prefers uploading images to the Ark Files API (upload once, then pass only file_id in subsequent turns).
  • Key Management: Paste the key and use it immediately. The key is written to the DSH credential service; it is not echoed and is not saved in settings.yaml.

Installation and Enablement

After installation, restart DSH to apply changes. During installation, if build scripts are reported as ignored, manually approve them.

  1. Run the installation command (using the web profile as an example):
dsh plugin --profile web add @icedcola/dsh-provider-veark
  1. If the first installation fails with ERR_PNPM_IGNORED_BUILDS, first manually approve the build scripts:
dsh plugin --profile web approve-builds protobufjs
After approving them, run the above installation command again.

Configuration and Usage

  1. In the DSH web interface, go to Settings → Plugins and find the Volcano Ark Coding Plan card.
  2. Paste your Volcano Ark API key and save.
  3. Select Volcano Ark Coding Plan in the model list (default ark-code-latest), and you can then use text, image, and PDF document understanding.

Document Reference Methods:
* Workspace Documents: Directly enter @docs/file.pdf in your prompt, or use a path containing spaces such as @"docs/my paper.pdf".
* Composer Button: Click the PDF button on the left side of the Composer. The plugin stores the file as an immutable snapshot and appends @.dsh-pdf/<uuid>/<filename> to the draft.

Advanced Configuration (settings.yaml):
You can edit the dsh-provider-veark section in %DSH_HOME%\settings.yaml (changes take effect immediately after saving):

dsh-provider-veark:
  preferFiles: true
  chatBaseURL: https://ark.cn-beijing.volces.com/api/coding/v3
  filesBaseURL: https://ark.cn-beijing.volces.com/api/v3
  apiKeyEnv: ARK_API_KEY
  pdfRetentionDays: 0

Notes and Known Boundaries

  • Permission Requirements: The plugin runs with the current DSH process permissions. Review the source code and license before installation.
  • Storage Location: The sidecar files generated by the PDF button are saved by default in %DSH_HOME%\provider-veark\pdfs\.
  • Known Issues:
    • The first installation requires manually approving the protobufjs build.
    • Reasoning blocks in assistant history are not replayed (Responses protocol limitation).
    • Video, audio, and direct TOS uploads are not supported.
    • The size limit for a single PDF and the cumulative raw PDF size per request are both 45 MiB.

Summary

This plugin provides DeepSeek Harness users with a convenient entry point to access the Volcano Ark Coding Plan. For more details, see the project homepage.
