When working with local files in DeepSeek Harness (DSH) Desktop, you usually need to copy files into the workspace or upload binary content. This plugin provides another approach: drag files directly into the conversation window to generate reference cards based on absolute paths, without transferring file bytes.
What Is This¶
dsh-local-path-attachments is a DSH plugin maintained by WangZetian-IVERSON. Its core purpose is to convert file objects dragged in from Windows Explorer or Finder into visual absolute path cards. These cards display the file name, full absolute path, and provide a one-click remove action, ultimately submitting clean path strings to the Agent.
Core Features¶
- Drag and Drop Display: Supports dragging single or multiple files into the DSH Desktop window, generating cards that contain the file name, full absolute path, and a remove button.
- Path Handling: Supports paths containing spaces, Chinese file names, drive letter paths, UNC paths, and POSIX paths. Supports case-insensitive deduplication for Windows paths.
- Quantity Limit: A maximum of 50 local path cards per draft.
- Native Integration: Stores each card as a native Composer reference node, following normal submission, failure recovery, draft clearing, and session isolation behavior.
Installation and Enablement¶
- Download: Download
dsh-local-path-attachments-0.1.1.tgzfrom the Releases page. - Install: Run the installation command in the Desktop Profile directory:
pnpm add "D:\path\to\dsh-local-path-attachments-0.1.1.tgz"
- Configure: Open the Desktop Profile’s
package.json, and append the plugin name to thedsh.profile.bundlesarray:
{
"dsh": {
"profile": {
"bundles": [
"dsh-local-path-attachments"
]
}
}
}
Restart DSH Desktop to complete enabling.
Typical Usage¶
- Open the DSH conversation window.
- Drag files from Windows Explorer or Finder into the Desktop window.
- View the generated path cards in the Composer area, confirm that the file name and path are correct, or click the remove button to delete unwanted cards.
- Submit the message. At this point, the message received by the Agent contains the full absolute path string, not the file content.
Use Cases and Notes¶
- Use Cases: Suitable for scenarios where you need to reference local files in the Agent context but do not want or are unable to copy the files into the workspace.
- Security and Permissions:
- Absolute paths are sent as part of the user message and may include usernames or sensitive directory names.
- File bytes are not transferred through this plugin.
- Reading files outside the workspace is still subject to the current DSH sandbox and approval policy restrictions.
- A path card cannot bypass operating system permissions or DSH security boundaries.
- File Status: Moving or deleting the source file does not update existing cards.
- Platform Differences: The path awareness feature for DSH Desktop on macOS/Linux has been implemented but has not been tested in real-world use by the maintainer. The Web GUI retains its original drag-and-drop behavior only when it cannot safely resolve absolute paths.
The plugin is open-sourced under the MIT license, and the maintainer provides complete test coverage. To view the source code or report issues, visit the GitHub repository.
