Preface¶
The default DeepSeek Harness (DSH) runtime typically includes a large number of tools, occupying space and increasing complexity even when idle. The Minimal Omni plugin is designed to address this issue: it keeps the default DeepSeek Harness runtime state minimal and enables browser, document parsing, or code navigation capabilities on demand only when a task explicitly requires them.
Plugin Overview¶
This plugin is an independent developer preview package for DeepSeek Harness, maintained by Rainflowers686 and released under the MIT license. It works by adding a package to the existing DSH web profile and does not change default presets, provider settings, credentials, agents, or permissions.
Core Features¶
The plugin provides the following core capabilities:
- Minimal brain: Minimizes the default runtime.
- On-demand capabilities: Enables code/LSP, browser, Web fetch, and PDF/DOCX/ZIP extraction on demand.
- Task management: Jobs and Session reload.
- Goals and compaction: Native Goal, Manual /compact, and Goal continuity across a successful compaction.
- Integration path: Integrated coding path.
- Workflow support: XLSX and PPTX model-oriented workflows, Automatic compaction tuning.
Installation and Enablement¶
Before use, ensure your environment meets the requirements: Node.js >= 22.19.0. Windows is the first supported platform.
- Run the installation command in the existing DSH environment:
dsh plugin --profile web add github:Rainflowers686/deepseek-harness-minimal-omni#v0.2.0-preview.2
- Start the DeepSeek Harness Web profile:
dsh --profile web
- Create a new session, open Agent preset, and select Minimal Omni.
Typical Usage¶
After selecting the Minimal Omni preset, the default interface remains concise and displays only basic tools such as pwsh, str_replace_editor, request_capability, and release_capability.
When a task requires accessing the current webpage, parsing documents (such as PDF, DOCX, or ZIP), or navigating repository code, the session can request the corresponding browser, document, or code/LSP capabilities and release them after the task is completed.
To uninstall the plugin, run:
dsh plugin --profile web remove @rain/minimal-omni
Notes and Limitations¶
- Platform support: Windows is currently the first supported platform. Refer to the project documentation for support status on other platforms.
- Feature status: XLSX and PPTX workflows and Automatic compaction tuning are still experimental.
- Vision support: Support depends on whether the selected route supports image input.
- Security and permissions: Capability tools use the current session workspace and bounded outputs. Browser profiles, downloads, screenshots, and tasks are owned by the runtime. Known unsupported Vision routes are rejected before image tool use.
- Community use: Normal community use does not require accepting a ledger or manual request budget. Acceptance/CI mode has stricter request and household isolation checks.
- Log security: Do not paste API keys, Cookies, or private session logs into issues.
Conclusion¶
The Minimal Omni plugin helps developers obtain advanced capabilities such as browser access and document parsing while maintaining the default conciseness of DeepSeek Harness through its on-demand enabling mechanism. For developers who need fine-grained control over the session tool list, this is a practical developer preview solution.
