The core design philosophy of DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is “everything is a plugin.” When developing agents or debugging Web interfaces, customizing the interface style is often needed in addition to functional logic. The dsh-window98-theme plugin provides a solution for this, restoring the Web interface to the classic Windows 98 style.
Plugin Introduction¶
This plugin is maintained by lffrom0303 and is a faithful Windows 98 skin for the DeepSeek Harness Web GUI, developed based on the classic 98.css design system. It does not change the core logic of DSH; instead, it overrides the design Token layer, giving the entire interface a retro feel with a teal desktop, silver raised panels, navy blue accents, and pixelated fonts.
Core Features¶
- Complete Token remapping: Overrides about 90
--dsw-alias-*design Tokens (including light and dark modes), ensuring buttons, hover states, code blocks, bubbles, sidebar, tooltips, and scrollbars follow the Win98 palette. - Classic UI components: Implements 98.css-style raised/pressed buttons, sunken input boxes with dropdown arrows, dashed focus outlines, and native
::selectioncolors. - Pixelated typography: Loads the 98.css “Pixelated MS Sans Serif” web font and disables smoothing to reproduce the visual effect of bitmap fonts.
- Checkerboard scrollbars: Provides classic checkerboard tracks, raised scroll thumbs, and four arrow buttons (requires Chromium-based browsers).
- Global border-radius reset: Removes rounded corners and shadows from modern browsers for a unified right-angle style.
- Theme integration: Registers two modes in the DSH theme selector:
window98(light) andwindow98-dark(dark). - Smart exclusions: Keeps navigation tabs, breadcrumb titles, brand capsules, and badges flat to preserve clarity for navigation and header information.
- Immediate application and persistence: The client hot-loads core Tokens through the theme service without a refresh; the host injects the stylesheet into
index.html, so the skin remains after a page refresh.
Installation and Enablement¶
This plugin requires the DeepSeek Harness Web profile to be enabled.
- Install the plugin using the official command:
dsh plugin --profile web add github:lffrom0303/dsh-window98-theme
- After installation, restart the
dsh webprocess to activate the plugin.
To uninstall:
dsh plugin --profile web remove dsh-window98-theme
Typical Usage¶
- Apply the skin: After installation and restart, the skin takes effect automatically. In the DSH theme selector, choose
window98orwindow98-darkto lock the current mode. - Disable for specific forms: If you want to disable the skin only in a specific form (such as the package management interface), edit the
cordis.patch.ymlfile and setconfig.modetostock.
Notes and Limitations¶
- Runtime environment: The plugin runs with the permissions of the current DSH process. Review the source code and license (MIT) before installation.
- Browser compatibility: Checkerboard scrollbars and arrow buttons require support from Chromium-based browsers; other browsers fall back to the scrollbar colors defined by the Tokens.
- Node version: If used through a package form, Node.js version 22.19.0 or higher is required.
- Persistence: Because the host injects the stylesheet, the skin remains after the browser refreshes.
Short Closing¶
With this plugin, developers can quickly switch the visual style of DSH without changing any code logic. It satisfies retro enthusiasts while also demonstrating the flexible control over the style layer provided by the DSH plugin system.
