DeepSeek Harness’s pluggable architecture allows developers to extend its functionality. During debugging or daily use, you may often need to paste error logs, meeting notes, or long document drafts. If you paste them directly into the chat box, the conversation can become cluttered with large blocks of text, hurting the reading experience. The dsh-longtext-input plugin introduced below addresses this pain point: it writes very long content to a workspace file and keeps only an @ reference in the input box, preserving a clean chat interface.
Plugin Information¶
- Name: dsh-longtext-input
- Maintainer: levodoubt
- License: MIT
- Core value: Moves long content out of the conversation stream and keeps only a path reference.
Core Features¶
- File persistence: After saving, the content is written to the
.dsh-longtext/folder under the current session working directory. - Clean interface: The input box does not display long text; instead, it appends an
@reference. - Frosted glass support: If
dsh-plugin-wallpaper-engineis installed and wallpaper is enabled, the long text editor automatically adapts to the wallpaper’s liquid glass appearance. - Shortcuts:
Ctrl/⌘+Enterto save,Escto cancel.
Installation and Enablement¶
This plugin requires DeepSeek Harness version >= 0.1.5-rc.1.
The official installation command is recommended:
dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-longtext-input
After installation, a “Long Text” button appears in the toolbar. You must restart DSH for the plugin to take effect.
Typical Usage¶
- Click the “Long Text” button in the input box toolbar to open the editor.
- Paste or enter the long content.
- Click Save (or use the shortcut
Ctrl/⌘+Enter). - Check the input box: the long text has disappeared, and a line containing
@.dsh-longtext/<file name>.mdhas been appended to the end.
Key Behavior Notes¶
- File naming: The saved file is named
14-digit local timestamp_title.md. If the title is empty, only the timestamp is retained. - Reference format: The
@reference is plain text, not a reference chip. This means you can manually delete it at any time, and the model can also read the path string. - Model reading: The model does not automatically read the content. After saving, the model only sees the
@reference. You need to manually instruct the model to “read this file.” - Draft retention: When opening the editor, the existing content in the input box is not prefilled. When saving, the reference is appended to the end of the existing input box content, if any.
- Local source checkout installation: If installed from a local source checkout, moving or deleting that directory will prevent DSH from starting.
Summary¶
dsh-longtext-input is a lightweight tool specifically designed for handling very long text. By moving content to the file system, it solves the problem of a bloated chat interface. Since it is under the MIT License, you can use it in your projects with confidence.
