DeepSeek Harness (DSH), when managing long conversation sessions, often relies on the first words as titles or requires developers to maintain them manually. The dsh-auto-chat-titles plugin replaces DSH’s built-in session-title-llm strategy and provides automatic, semantic title generation. It inherits DSH’s core service behaviors (such as persistence, cancellation, and normalization) while allowing generation parameters to be adjusted dynamically in settings.

Core Features

This plugin mainly addresses insufficient semantic clarity and configurability of conversation titles:

  • Semantic title generation: It no longer falls back to the first words, and instead uses an LLM to generate more accurate titles based on the conversation content.
  • Model selection: Provides an independent title model selector in Settings → Plugins, where you can inherit the current conversation route or choose a model from the host directory.
  • Manual regeneration: Provides a Regenerate title button in the conversation header. Clicking it explicitly invokes the persistence service. Manual regeneration cancels title pinning and replaces the title; manual renaming preserves pinning.
  • Context-based regeneration: Supports extracting context from a recent number of user messages to rewrite the title.
  • Real-time configuration: Supports real-time adjustment of title length, regeneration context window, input byte limit, output token count, and timeout settings.
  • Core behavior compatibility: Fully preserves DSH’s existing behaviors, including the cancellation mechanism, normalization, persistence, source tracking, pinned titles, and projections.

Installation and Enablement

In a DSH environment with a Web Profile, run the following command to install it:

dsh plugin --profile web add github:leonardoxr/dsh-auto-chat-titles

After installation, the plugin becomes active automatically. Host-side output content supports hot reloading. If browser-side code needs to be modified, rebuild the client artifacts and refresh the page.

Typical Usage

  1. Open Settings → Plugins → Automatic chat titles.
  2. In Title model, select a specific model, for example, inherit the current conversation route or choose from the host directory.
  3. Adjust Title length according to language requirements (for non-CJK languages, this is usually the target word count).
  4. Set Regeneration context to specify the number of recent user messages included during manual regeneration.
  5. Adjust CJK length, input byte count, output token count, and timeout duration in Advanced generation limits.
  6. In the conversation interface, click the Regenerate title button, or enter the /regenerate-title command in the input field to trigger regeneration.

System Requirements

  • DeepSeek Harness: Requires the 0.1.1-rc.2 or newer 0.1.x prerelease version.
  • Node.js: Version 22 or higher is required.
  • Web Profile: Requires the standard session-title, settings, commands, and client runtime bundles to be installed.

Notes

  • DSH currently supports enabling only one asynchronous title provider at a time.
  • Plugin settings are persisted to the auto-chat-titles configuration item under $DSH_HOME/settings.yaml.
  • Check the source code and license (MIT) before installation.

Ecosystem Background

DeepSeek Harness embraces the “everything is a plugin” philosophy. dsh-auto-chat-titles is a community-maintained plugin and has no official affiliation with DeepSeek. For more plugin information and source code, refer to the community catalog or the GitHub repository.
