Introduction¶
When developing with DeepSeek Harness (DSH), developers often run scripts with bash or pwsh, or use read to read code files. The raw output from these tools is usually plain text, where keywords, strings, and comments are mixed together and hard to locate quickly visually. The dsh-tool-highlight plugin solves this issue by adding layered syntax highlighting to the output of these specific tools in the web interface, mimicking the VS Code Dark+ style and helping you identify code structure quickly.
Core Features¶
The plugin mainly processes the output of bash, pwsh commands, and read, with the following capabilities:
- Layered Syntax Highlighting: Uses the VS Code Dark+ color scheme to distinguish keywords, strings, numbers, function names, and comments.
- Smart Recognition:
- read: Identifies the language by file extension (supports
.py,.js,.ts,.json,.ps1,.sh, etc.). - bash / pwsh: Uses content-based heuristics. If the output looks like JSON, it is highlighted as JSON; if it looks like code, it is highlighted by syntax. Unrecognized tables or log output are left unchanged and not colored, avoiding visual noise.
- read: Identifies the language by file extension (supports
- Zero Token Overhead: Pure front-end rendering; it does not call the model and does not add or modify conversation content. It only applies visual treatment to existing text.
- Status and Collapsing: Includes an exit-code status bar (green for success, red for non-zero exit or signal). Tool cards are collapsed by default (can be toggled), and automatically expand while running or on error.
Installation and Enabling¶
Install it with the official DSH command-line tool. After installation, restart dsh web and hard refresh the page (Ctrl+Shift+R).
dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-tool-highlight
Configuration¶
The plugin can be controlled via user settings or a YAML configuration file.
Configuration Option Description:
| Key | Type | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
collapseByDefault |
boolean |
true |
Whether to collapse read / bash / pwsh cards by default. Set to false to restore the expanded state. |
Configuration Methods:
- In the DSH interface: go to Settings → Plugin Configuration → Tool Card Collapsing.
- In a configuration file (
cordis.ymlorsettings.yaml):
tool-highlight:
collapseByDefault: true
How It Works and Dependencies¶
- Rendering Logic: The plugin is mounted on DSH’s
tool.call.toolviewslot and registers renderers based on tool names. It uses lightweight in-house regular expressions for token highlighting. The color scheme is fixed to VS Code Dark+ and follows DSH theme tokens. - Dependency: Depends on
@deepseek-ai/schemastery. - Exclusivity and Coexistence: This plugin takes over only the
read, bash, andpwshtool cards (priority -2). Ifdsh-better-tool-uiis installed, the two do not conflict and each is responsible for different tools.
Notes¶
- Non-Model Plugin: The plugin does not call any model and consumes no tokens.
- Content Recognition: Follows the principle of “highlight only recognizable content.” Unstructured content such as tables and logs is left unchanged and not forcibly highlighted.
- Version Compatibility: Requires
@deepseek-ai/schemastery(>=0.1.0-rc.1).
