Adjusting a model’s reasoning effort in the DSH environment usually requires manually editing configuration files or hard-coding values. This approach is cumbersome and error-prone. This article introduces the dsh-reasoning-effort-slider plugin, which simplifies the process through a visual slider and automatic configuration management.

Plugin Introduction

This is a model reasoning plugin maintained by lyaoliu. It primarily addresses configuration management challenges when DSH users adjust reasoning effort, providing 7-level adjustment, automatic configuration writing, and exception self-recovery features.

Core Features

  • 7-level slider: Supports seven levels: off / minimal / low / medium / high / xhigh / max.
  • Whale Fall Mom theme: Provides a global color scheme, with the slider featuring a radiation light effect.
  • Chibi character animation: Switches to the corresponding chibi character animation frame based on the current level.
  • Automatic declaration: If the user drags the slider but the model is not configured, the plugin automatically writes the default level to settings.yaml without requiring a restart.
  • Self-healing mechanism: If the server rejects the current level, the plugin triggers a self-healing process, parses the valid level list, and rewrites the configuration to automatically switch to a supported level.
  • Knowledge base: Built-in model level mapping, including wire value conversion logic (e.g., off → none).
  • Automatic compatibility fix: For pi-ai models, it automatically writes supportsDeveloperRole: false to ensure compatibility.

Installation and Activation

Run the following command in the terminal to install the plugin:

dsh plugin --profile web add github:lyaoliu/dsh-reasoning-effort-slider#main

After installation, you must restart DSH Web Host for the plugin to take effect.

Configuration

The core configuration of the plugin is located in the configuration file under the user directory:

~/.dsh/settings.yaml

Add or modify the following content in the file:

dsh-reasoning-effort:
  enabled: true
  visualEffect: radiation # 可选值:radiation | particles | gradient

Working Principle

  1. The user drags the slider in the interface, and the plugin checks whether the current model already has a reasoningEfforts configuration.
  2. If not configured, the plugin automatically writes the default seven-level settings and compatibility configuration (such as supportsDeveloperRole: false) to settings.yaml.
  3. The hot-watching mechanism for settings.yaml is triggered, and the slider interface immediately refreshes and applies the new level.
  4. When sending a message, if the server rejects the current level, the turn-error node triggers self-healing: it parses the valid level list returned by the server, rewrites the configuration, and automatically switches the slider to the nearest supported level.

Use Cases and Notes

This plugin is suitable for DSH users who need fine-grained control of reasoning effort, especially in scenarios involving multiple model configurations.

Note:
- The plugin runs with the permissions of the current DSH process. Please ensure the installation source is trustworthy.
- Strictly comply with the MIT license. It is recommended to check the source code before installation.

Summary

dsh-reasoning-effort-slider lowers the barrier to adjusting DSH reasoning effort through visual control and automated operations (self-healing, automatic declaration). To view the source code or directory page, please visit GitHub or SkillHub.
