Introduction¶
DeepSeek Harness (DSH) provides a work window for AI conversations. During long sessions or development debugging, the window background can appear monotonous. The laym0nd/dsh-labrador plugin introduces a virtual Labrador pet based on photos and a state machine, adding a low-overhead companion element to the window. It does not rely on a complex rendering engine; instead, it controls behavior with a state machine and is suitable for users who want visual feedback while developing or using DSH.
What It Is¶
This is a virtual pet that lives in a corner of the DeepSeek Harness window. Its appearance is driven by 17 specific photos, and a built-in state machine determines its behavior logic. The plugin runs entirely inside the DSH process and does not have an independent desktop window. The project uses an MIT license, and the source code is hosted on GitHub.
Core Features¶
- State machine control: The pet has 7 core states (idle, action, movement, sleep, reaction, drag, throw). The state machine ensures smooth transitions between behaviors; for example, waking from sleep only transitions to the idle state, rather than jumping directly to another pose.
- Pose library: 17 built-in poses, including sitting, standing, looking up, on the sofa, sleeping, sniffing, in a car, and wearing a cone.
- Physics interaction: Supports click-to-poke and drag-to-move. The throw function includes calculations for gravity, wall/floor bounces, and landing friction; each time the pet hits a wall or the floor, its facial expression changes accordingly.
- Sound feedback: It can make dog sounds (such as woof, hff, yip, grrr, etc.), displayed as bubbles above its head.
- Right-click menu: Provides a right-click menu with actions such as “pet,” “play action,” and “return to corner.”
- Settings page: You can adjust personality (calm, focused, lively), size, opacity, and control the weight and visibility toggles for each action in
Settings -> Labrador.
Installation and Enablement¶
Run the following command in the terminal to install the plugin:
dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-labrador
After installation, restart Harness. The pet will appear in the lower-right corner of the window.
Typical Usage¶
- Interaction: Click the pet’s body to poke it.
- Movement: Drag the pet to change its position within the window.
- Throw: Throw the pet toward a wall or the floor, and observe its bounce and expression changes.
- Menu: Right-click the pet and select “pet,” “play action,” or “return to corner.”
- Configuration: Adjust behavior parameters on the settings page; changes take effect automatically after saving.
Notes¶
- Movement limitations: Horizontal movement is currently disabled. The plugin requires dedicated walking actions (with multiple frames) to demonstrate a sliding effect, which the current pose library does not support.
- Pose defects: The “sniffing” pose is an incomplete segment (missing the head) and is included with a lower weight.
- Window scope: The pet exists only within the Harness window and does not have a separate desktop window outside the window.
- Configuration persistence: Settings are written atomically to
$DSH_HOME/dsh-labrador/main-config.json; invalid values are logged and fall back to defaults. - Source review: It is recommended to review the source code before use to confirm license and dependency compatibility.
Conclusion¶
laym0nd/dsh-labrador is a lightweight desktop pet plugin that adds fun to the DSH window through a state machine and physics interaction. It is suitable for developers who want to customize behavior parameters or simply seek visual companionship. For more details, refer to the project page or GitHub repository.
