In the development workflow of DeepSeek Harness (DSH), developers often need to view file contents in the sidebar. When dealing with images, PDFs, or long text, frequently switching windows or checking thumbnails can interrupt the workflow. The dsh-quicklook plugin provides a QuickLook-style fast preview solution; press the Space key to get a large-image or large-text overlay preview in the current context.
Plugin Positioning¶
This plugin is maintained by Hoemr and is positioned as a companion client plugin for dsh-better-sidebar. It takes over file preview through browser-side logic, while the host side exists only as a dormant stub. Its core value is to provide instant QuickLook-like previews inside the editor or sidebar, supporting image, PDF, and text content types.
Core Features¶
- Large-image overlay preview: Press the Space key on the active file tab to immediately open an overlay showing the content.
- Content type support: Automatically recognizes file types and renders image, PDF, or text content.
- Zoom memory: The zoom ratio of the preview window is saved through
localStorage(key namedsh-quicklook:size) and persists after the application restarts. - Optional dependency: The plugin is designed as an optional peer contract and depends on
dsh-better-sidebar>=0.13.1 and <0.16. If this dependency is not mounted, the plugin provides no functionality. - Hot plugging: Supports dynamic loading; installation order does not affect feature activation.
Installation and Activation¶
Before installing, ensure your environment meets the Node.js version requirement (^22.19.0 || >=24.0.0).
Use the official installation command to add the plugin:
dsh plugin --profile desktop add dsh-quicklook@0.1.0
After installation, restart the application. The plugin will be automatically mounted through bundle patching.
Typical Usage¶
- Open preview: Press the
Spacekey on the active file tab. - Close preview: Press the
Spacekey again, or press theEscapekey.
Notes¶
- Functionality dependency: You must install and mount
dsh-better-sidebarbefore previews can be triggered. - Permissions and security: The plugin runs in the client context. Please ensure you obtain the source from a trusted origin.
- License: The plugin is open-sourced under the MIT license.
Summary¶
dsh-quicklook solves the pain point of sidebar file preview through Space key interaction, providing lightweight image and text viewing capabilities. Combined with localStorage-based zoom memory, it is suitable for DSH development scenarios where frequent inspection of file details is required.
