Introduction¶
DeepSeek Harness (DSH) uses a plugin architecture. During development or usage, a low-overhead way is sometimes needed to observe computation or take a brief break. The dsh-life-game plugin adds a sidebar panel entry and a full-size central-column board to DSH, implementing the complete functionality of Conway’s Game of Life.
Plugin Overview¶
The plugin is maintained by user Helly0000 and licensed under the MIT License. It adds the following views to DSH:
* sidebar.panellist / life-game: a panel row in the sidebar (with a button and label).
* main / life-game: a board filling the central column.
* shell.overlay / life-game-float: an optional floating window for viewing while chatting.
Core Features¶
Rules and Interaction¶
The plugin supports four rules: B3/S23 (standard Life), B36/S23 (HighLife), B3678/S34678 (Day & Night), and B2/S (Seeds). You can interact directly on the board:
* Drag to draw cells.
* Right-click or Alt-drag to erase cells.
Pattern Library¶
It includes several built-in classic pattern collections, including gliders, lightweight spaceships (LWSS), glider guns, R-pentomino, acorns, pulsars, and diehards. After selecting a pattern, a semi-transparent preview appears under the cursor, and clicking places it.
Configuration and Data¶
- Board Controls: Board size and cell size can be adjusted independently. Board size supports presets (40×24, 64×38, 98×58, 140×84) or Fit.
- Real-time Data: Provides generation, population, peak, density, board size, and a population curve. New cells have a flashing effect.
- Run Controls: Supports toroidal or dead-edge mode, adjustable speed (1–120 generations/second), single-step execution, random generation, clearing, and reset.
Language and Persistence¶
The plugin supports Simplified Chinese and English, following the host language environment. Preferences (board size, zoom, speed, rule, edge mode, floating window position, and running state) are automatically saved in the browser’s localStorage.
Installation and Enabling¶
The plugin depends on DeepSeek Harness (dsh >= 0.1.5-rc.1). Installation steps are as follows:
- Place the plugin code at the absolute path
/absolute/path/to/life-plugin. - Run the installation command:
dsh plugin --profile web add /absolute/path/to/life-plugin
- Restart the
dshprocess to apply the configuration.
After enabling, click the life-game button in the sidebar to start. The board is displayed in the central column by default, and the floating window can also be opened with life-game-float.
Notes¶
- Permission limitations: The plugin runs on the client, with no network access and no file system access.
- Data storage: Preferences are saved only in the browser’s
localStorage(keydsh-life-game:prefs). - Ecosystem context: DSH emphasizes its plugin ecosystem. This plugin is community-maintained, its directory page and GitHub link are on the community site, and it has no affiliation with DeepSeek official.
Summary¶
dsh-life-game is a feature-complete embedded Game of Life tool, suitable for observing computation or taking a simple break during development and debugging. Its MIT license allows free use and modification.
