Introduction¶
DeepSeek Harness (DSH) adopts an “everything is a plugin” architecture philosophy. When building agents or debugging tools, online search is a common requirement. Although DSH natively provides a web_search backend, developers may sometimes want to use a more specialized search engine API. The dsh-web-search-tavily plugin aims to provide DSH with more professional web retrieval capabilities by integrating the Tavily search API.
Plugin Overview¶
This is a Tavily-based web search provider maintained by developer renchengxiang. It mainly addresses the following problem: switching DSH’s web_search backend to Tavily without modifying native code, and it provides a visual API Key management interface.
Core Features¶
The plugin provides the following capabilities:
- Provider registration: Registers the
tavilyprovider in thectx.webcontext. - Backend replacement: Supports replacing DeepSeek’s native
web_searchbackend with Tavily. - Configuration management: Adds a plugin configuration card under Settings → Plugins to manage the Tavily API Key.
- UI integration: Adds a plugin card under the
tavily-searchnamespace. - Persistence: Through the profile bundle patch mechanism, plugin configuration remains valid after a restart.
Installation and Enablement¶
Add the plugin using the official installation command:
dsh plugin --profile web add github:renchengxiang/dsh-web-search-tavily
After installation, you must fully restart DeepSeek Harness Desktop or the dsh web process for the plugin to take effect.
Configuration Steps¶
- Open Settings → Plugins → Plugin configuration.
- Expand the Tavily search card.
- Enter your Tavily API Key.
- If you want the
web_searchfeature to use Tavily directly, keep the Replace native web search option enabled. - Save the configuration.
Besides configuring it in the UI, you can also provide the key by exporting an environment variable or credential named TAVILY_API_KEY.
Technical Details and Notes¶
- Bundle Patch: The plugin mounts the
cordis.patch.ymlfile throughdsh.bundle.patch. For a standard installation, there is no need to manually editcordis.patch.yml. - Avoid Conflicts: If you previously manually mounted a local development copy, remove the old local mount line before installation to prevent double registration.
Use Cases¶
This plugin is suitable for developers who need to use the Tavily search API for online retrieval. The plugin runs with the permissions of the current DSH process.
The DSH ecosystem emphasizes a plugin-based approach. Community directories (such as SkillHub) provide plugin indexes, but this has no official affiliation with the official DeepSeek team or the High-Flyer team. Before use, please check the source code and license (MIT) yourself.
After configuration, the web_search backend will be taken over by Tavily. Project URL: https://github.com/renchengxiang/dsh-web-search-tavily
