DeepSeek Harness (DSH) often requires switching to an external editor when viewing or modifying files during a conversation. meow-file-view embeds a lightweight file viewer in the DSH conversation window, summoning a right-side panel via the “File” button in the input box. It unifies browsing, previewing, editing, and Git diff viewing.
Positioning¶
This is a standalone bundle DSH plugin maintained by meimiaoji-creator and released under the MIT License. It does not depend on DSH source code and is installed independently via the dsh 插件 --profile web add command, coexisting at the same level as official plugins.
Core Features¶
- Directory tree browsing: Displays the workspace directory tree on the left side, with lazy loading support. By default, the
node_modulesand.gitdirectories are hidden and can be adjusted through configuration. - Previewing and editing: The right-side panel automatically routes based on file type. Markdown files support a TOC, Mermaid diagram zooming, and image previews; code files support syntax highlighting. Direct editing and saving (Ctrl+S) are also supported.
- Direct access to turn artifacts: After each turn ends, files written or modified by the model are attached as a row of chips at the end of the turn. Clicking a chip lets you view that file directly in the panel.
- Git diff view: When a file has Git changes, the chip displays a Diff button. Clicking it lets you view the diff between the file and HEAD. This feature is available only if git is installed locally.
Installation and Enablement¶
Install it using the official DSH plugin manager, specifying --profile web:
dsh 插件 --profile web add github:meimiaoji-creator/meow-file-view
After installation, restart DSH web. A “File” button will appear on the right side of the input box, and a “Git Diff” configuration section will appear in the settings dialog.
Typical Usage¶
- Click the “File” button on the right side of the input box to open the viewer panel.
- Browse files in the directory tree, or preview/edit Markdown in the right-side panel.
- On the preview page, press
Ctrl+Sto save the Markdown file. - After the interaction ends, click the file chip at the end of the turn to view the file content, or click the Diff button when changes exist to view the differences.
Notes¶
- Profile restriction: Only the
webprofile is supported. It strongly depends onctx.webServer, so TUI/CLI profiles cannot use it. - Independence: No DSH source code changes and no external network requests are initiated.
- Git dependency: The Git diff feature is optional; the Diff button appears only if the git command is installed locally.
Conclusion¶
meow-file-view solves the pain point of needing to leave the conversation window to inspect details after the AI modifies files. It closes the loop of file operation capabilities within the DSH conversation flow, making it suitable for developers who frequently need to browse, edit, or compare workspace files during conversations.
