Introduction¶
DeepSeek Harness (DSH) uses a plugin-based architecture and allows users to extend functionality. When asking follow-up questions about details in long conversations, the common approach usually involves copying and pasting. This can break the reading flow and make the main conversation cluttered. The dsh-plugin-followup plugin uses text-selection follow-ups to keep follow-up content separate from the main conversation, providing a cleaner interaction experience.
Plugin Overview¶
- Name: dsh-plugin-followup
- Repository: MasterZ9286/dsh-plugin-followup
- Category: Client
- License: MIT
- Core capability: After selecting text in an assistant answer, right-click to follow up. All question and answer content remains in the right-side panel and is hidden from the main conversation.
Core Features¶
The plugin provides the following capabilities:
- Text-selection follow-up: Select text in a completed answer → right-click →
Follow up (right panel). The body text, code blocks, tables, and tool blocks are all supported. - Right-side panel: The panel takes over the
guidetab in the native right side bar. Its width and aspect ratio are calculated by the application and do not cover the main conversation. - Independent by session: Follow-up cards are associated by
sessionId; each workspace/session has its own separate set. - Card threads: Each card is a thread containing the quote, follow-up question, and answer. The input box at the bottom is persistent and allows continued follow-ups.
- Tab-style window: Each follow-up round becomes a tab at the top of the panel. You can click to switch, close, and restore the corresponding turn; follow-ups within the same tab remain on the same page.
- Full answer mirror: The answer is read from the
closing.blocksof theturn-tailnode and is not truncated. - Built-in Markdown rendering: The plugin includes a minimal built-in renderer covering common syntax such as code blocks, inline code, headings, and lists, with no external dependencies.
- No interruption of reading position: When sending a follow-up, the plugin pre-intercepts the application’s automatic scrolling of the scroll container, so the main conversation does not jump.
- Space-saving display: When the quote, follow-up, or answer is too long, it is collapsed by height and can be expanded in one click.
- Hidden in the main conversation: The turn generated by a follow-up is hidden at the rendering layer, while the session log is retained as-is.
- Persistent entry: The conversation header provides a
Follow-up Nbutton. - Restorable: The switch at the bottom of the panel can restore hidden turns to the main conversation.
Installation and Enablement¶
The plugin is built into the desktop client (requires checking the preset). For CLI or custom profiles, use the following command:
dsh plugin --profile <profile> add github:MasterZ9286/dsh-plugin-followup
Note: The desktop client rebuilds profile files on every startup. Manual changes to
package.json,dsh.profile.bundles, andcordis.patch.ymlwill be overwritten. We recommend using the preset or the command above to install it.
Typical Usage¶
- Select text in any completed answer.
- Right-click →
Follow up (right panel). - A tab for that follow-up round appears on the right: the top shows the quote, the middle shows the thread, and the bottom shows the input box. Selecting text and following up again creates a new tab.
- Type your question → press
Enterto send; continue following up in the same tab. - The full answer flows into the card; this turn is hidden in the main conversation.
- To compare with the original text, use the
Main conversation hide follow-ups: On/Offtoggle at the bottom of the panel; “Clear” also restores any hidden turns.
Applicable Scenarios and Notes¶
- Applicable scenarios: Scenarios where you need to ask continuous follow-up questions about details in long answers, perform code review, or preserve context without interfering with reading the main conversation.
- Notes:
- The hiding mechanism is at the rendering layer. The session log remains unchanged, so the model context is fully preserved.
- The plugin depends on framework-level DOM conventions (
data-slot="conversation.session",data-chat-turn,data-composer-input). - The panel takes over the
guidetab in the native right side bar; disabling or uninstalling the plugin restores it.
Conclusion¶
By using the right-side panel and card thread design, this plugin solves the problems of easily messy follow-ups and broken reading flow in long conversations. For users who regularly perform deep development or long-text processing in DeepSeek Harness, it can significantly improve the efficiency of follow-up questions.
