Introduction

The philosophy of DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is “everything is a plugin”. When building DSH-based agents, it is often necessary to allow the AI to read an enterprise’s internal knowledge base. Relying on manual retrieval is inefficient and makes it difficult to maintain contextual coherence. The dsh-outline-auto plugin addresses this need by directly connecting the Outline knowledge base to DSH conversations.

What is this?

This is a DeepSeek Harness Web plugin maintained by huangfuren. Its core function is to allow users to search the Outline knowledge base by keywords in DSH conversations and retrieve the full text content of documents (in Markdown format).

Core features

The plugin provides 13 tools, covering search, reading, and document management:

  1. Search and context search: Supports filtering by author name (author-aware search); context search returns document snippets for citation.
  2. Document operations: Includes reading, counting, listing collections, listing users, resolving paths, listing children, and returning templates.
  3. Local saving: Supports saving documents as local Markdown files, with support for merging directories and generating a table of contents.
  4. Document management: Approved write tools support creating, updating, and deleting documents, with an approval prompt before each write.

Other features include:

  • Clickable results: Document links are automatically resolved to absolute paths.
  • Configurable read cache: Default TTL is 60 seconds, with a configurable upper limit.
  • Fault tolerance: Encounters 429 rate limits trigger automatic retries up to 3 times (with backoff support).
  • Enforced HTTPS: HTTPS is enforced for all non-local addresses to prevent plaintext transmission of API tokens.
  • GUI configuration card: Each user enters credentials in a GUI card, without modifying configuration files.
  • Security: If configuration is missing, the plugin still loads normally, and tools return clear error messages; write operations require separate user approval.

Installation and enablement

1. Install

Run the following command in the terminal to install the specified version:

dsh plugin --profile web add git+https://github.com/huangfuren/dsh-outline.git#v0.8.1

2. Restart the service

After installation, restart the dsh web service to apply the plugin.

3. Enable the plugin

In the DSH settings interface, go to “Plugins” -> “Plugin list”, find the plugin, and enable it.

Typical usage

Search for documents

Simply provide a keyword in the conversation. The plugin returns the matched document’s title, snippet, and link.

Ask for one document from the returned results (for example, “Please read the first document”), and the plugin returns the complete Markdown content of that document.

Write to documents

If write permissions are configured, approved write tools can create, update, or delete documents. Before each write operation, the system shows an approval prompt.

Use cases and notes

System requirements

  • Platform: Windows / macOS / Linux
  • Node.js: 22.19 or later
  • DSH baseline: 0.1.5-rc.2

Security and permissions

  • Reading does not require write permissions: Read operations do not require write permissions; write operations require separate user approval for each execution.
  • User credential isolation: Each user enters their own API token in a GUI card; it is stored locally and not committed to Git.
  • Enforced HTTPS: Ensures that API tokens are encrypted during transmission.

Configuration details

  • Cache: The default read cache TTL is 60 seconds, with a configurable range of 1000ms - 300000ms.
  • Retries: Rate-limited requests are automatically retried up to 3 times.

Closing

This plugin provides DSH users with a standard interface for connecting to the Outline knowledge base, with complete fault tolerance, caching, and permission control mechanisms. It is suitable for scenarios where enterprise knowledge bases need to be integrated into conversations.
