In DeepSeek Harness (DSH) usage scenarios, if the Agent’s response takes a long time or you are occupied with other tasks, you may miss the reply. The dsh-desktop-notify plugin provides visual feedback when the AI completes a response through the system’s native Toast notification mechanism, without needing the DSH interface to remain in the foreground.
What Is This¶
This is a plugin that provides desktop notification functionality for the DSH client. It is maintained by developer crazy-L118 and follows the MIT License. The plugin does not depend on a runtime environment and triggers notifications through system-native interfaces (Windows WinRT, macOS osascript, Linux notify-send).
Core Features¶
- Native system notifications: When the AI completes a reply, a system-level notification is shown. The notification body includes a summary of the reply and identifies the current workspace and session information.
- Settings entry: The switch is located at
dsh Settings→General→"Desktop Completion Notification". - Filtering mechanism: Notifications are triggered only when the main conversation completes. Background tasks completed by sub-agents do not show notification pop-ups.
- HTTP calls: Supports pushing notifications to multiple devices through an HTTP interface to enable cross-device reminders.
Installation and Activation¶
During installation, you must explicitly specify version 1.4.1 to ensure the latest version is installed.
dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-desktop-notify@1.4.1
After installation, restart the dsh web process to activate the plugin.
Typical Usage: HTTP Calls¶
If you need to receive notifications without interacting with your computer, you can configure an HTTP push channel.
- Prepare the service: Prepare any service that can receive HTTP POST requests (it can be a self-hosted service or a compatible third-party push service), and obtain its endpoint address and (optional) access token.
- Enable the switch: Go to
dsh Settings→General→"Desktop Completion Notification"and turn on the switch. The"HTTP Calls"option appears below; turn it on. - Add devices: Click
"Add Device". Fill in the device name, server address, and access token. You can continue adding multiple devices; each can be independently enabled/disabled or deleted. - Data push: After you leave your computer, each time the AI completes a round of replies, the plugin sends a POST request to all enabled devices with configured addresses. The request body is in JSON format and includes the
title(title),body(reply preview),token(access token), andicon(icon URL) fields.
Use Cases and Notes¶
- Independent channels: Desktop notifications and HTTP calls are two independent channels. You can enable only desktop notifications, only HTTP calls, or both at the same time.
- Parallel sending: Pushes to multiple devices are performed in parallel, and a failure on any one device does not affect receipt on the other devices.
- Secure storage: Access tokens are stored in the local
~/.dsh/desktop-notify.jsonfile and are sent only to the server address you configure. - Icon configuration: The
iconfield for each device defaults to the plugin’s built-inassets/dsh-icon.jpg. If left empty, this field is not sent. You can use a custom URL or restore the default with one click. - Unofficial product: This project has no affiliation, partnership, or official endorsement relationship with DeepSeek / 深度求索. The plugin name uses the officially recommended DSH abbreviation, but it is only referenced in the description.
Summary¶
dsh-desktop-notify upgrades the DSH user experience from passive viewing to proactive reception. It provides immediate local feedback and also extends notifications to other devices through HTTP. All configuration is based on local files and interface calls, with no additional account system required.
