In the DeepSeek Harness (DSH) web profile, the default behavior is to open a tab in the default browser. This approach lacks the operational experience of a standalone application and can easily interfere with everyday browsing. The dsh-web-window-companion plugin developed by big0lives solves this problem by changing how the browser is launched.
What This Is¶
This is a DSH web profile plugin (bundle). After installation, the behavior of dsh web changes: it no longer throws a tab into the default browser; instead, it opens a standalone window using Edge or Chrome App mode. This plugin is maintained by big0lives, is licensed under the MIT License, and its core value lies in converting the web GUI into a desktop application mode, with the ability to stop the service when the window is closed.
Core Features¶
- No longer throws a tab into the default browser.
- Opens a standalone window in Edge / Chrome App mode.
- Closing the window stops the service gracefully.
- Zero dependencies, zero configuration, pure JavaScript.
- Browser detection order: Edge (x86 -> x64) -> Chrome (x64 -> x86).
Installation and Enabling¶
Run the installation command in the web profile:
dsh plugin --profile web add github:big0lives/dsh-web-window-companion
After installation, run the following command to verify that the plugin layer is active:
dsh --profile web --dump-config
You should see the # == dsh-web-window-companion layer in the output.
To uninstall it:
dsh plugin --profile web remove dsh-web-window-companion
Typical Usage¶
Start it directly after installation:
dsh web
- The terminal prints a URL containing a token (
dsh web: http://127.0.0.1:3080/?token=...). If the App window cannot be opened, you can manually copy the URL and use it. - After closing the App window, the service exits gracefully (root fiber dispose, exit code 0).
- When started remotely over SSH, the plugin automatically stays silent and does not steal window focus.
Use Cases and Notes¶
Suitable for using DSH Web as a desktop application.
- Zero dependencies: no build steps are required, it is implemented in pure JavaScript, and installation via git requires no additional configuration.
- Environment detection: it detects Edge first, then Chrome, with detection order x86 -> x64.
- Privacy protection: it uses a dedicated browser profile and does not touch any state in your daily-use browser.
⚠️ Note: The sibling project dsh-win-quick-launcher uses the same dedicated browser profile as this plugin. Choose one or the other; do not enable both at the same time.
Conclusion¶
With simple configuration, this plugin delivers a desktop-like experience for DSH Web, making it suitable for scenarios that require quick startup and shutdown while avoiding occupation of the default browser.
