In the DeepSeek Harness (DSH) ecosystem, when handling code maintenance or complex tasks, developers often need to switch frequently among chat, file editors, and browsers. The @yishengjun8/dsh-workspace-studio plugin is designed to address this pain point. It refactors the DSH interface into a three-column left-center-right layout, providing an IDE-like development experience similar to VS Code directly within the conversation flow.
Plugin Overview¶
The plugin is maintained by user yishengjun8 and is a single-package client plugin. It provides file tree browsing within the workspace, a built-in editor, session branch mind maps, and editor context injection capabilities. With a CodeMirror 6-driven editor and intelligent three-way merge mechanism, the plugin ensures file modifications during AI-assisted development remain safe and controllable.

Core Features¶
1. Workspace File Browsing and Preview Tabs¶
The plugin integrates the file tree into the left sidebar, with the session list switchable via top buttons. The file preview panel is positioned to the left of the conversation by default, and can be moved to the right in settings.
- Tab management: Preview tabs are saved per Session, support closing, drag-and-drop reordering, and wheel horizontal scrolling. A single click opens a temporary preview (italic), while a double-click converts it into a normal tab. Right-clicking a tab can pin it or open it in a new window.
- Rendering views: Supports Markdown (source/preview toggle), HTML (source/page preview), images, and read-only text. PDF and Office documents require the Host to provide document conversion services.
- Encoding support: Automatically detects 14 encodings (UTF-8, GBK, Big5, etc.), and supports switching encoding or saving as a specific encoding via right-click.
2. Edit-on-Open Built-in Editor¶
The editor is based on CodeMirror 6 and enters edit mode as soon as a file is opened, without requiring additional clicks.
- Draft mechanism: All editing operations are first written to a draft area (
~/.dsh-plugin/dsh-workspace-studio/drafts/<workspaceId>/), while the source file remains untouched throughout. - Three-way merge: On save, the plugin compares the source file with the draft content. If the source file is unchanged, it silently writes back; if modifications are in different locations, it merges automatically; if there is a conflict, a pop-up displays the comparison for the user to choose which version to keep.
- Diff visualization: The editor provides line numbers, syntax highlighting, and diff color markers (green for additions, blue for modifications, red for deletions), as well as collapsing arrows similar to VS Code.
- Scrollbar markers: The scrollbar in the preview column is widened, and change markers are drawn on the track background (green segments, blue segments, red lines), supporting only the Chromium engine.
3. Session Branch Mind Map¶
Click the “Mind Map” button in the session header to enter mind map mode, converting the conversation flow into a visual mind map.
- Branch management: The first time you enter, the session is converted into a mind map session. Clicking a card for an intermediate turn can fork a new branch. Right-clicking a card can rename or delete it (true truncation, removing the card and all content after it).
- Streaming visualization: A session in generation displays cards with colorful gradient halo effects; after streaming output completes, the normal state is restored.
- AI summaries: Supports generating summaries for each turn’s question (can be enabled in settings), and supports individually regenerating them.
4. Editor Context Injection¶
Allows injecting the currently open file or selected code snippets directly into the conversation.
- Injection methods: Uses
<opened_file>tags to inject entire file contents, and<selection>tags to inject selected content. - Command support: Prompts starting with commands such as
/planalso carry context, ensuring the model sees the combination of the file/selection and user input.
Typical Usage¶
-
Browsing and editing:
Switch to the file browsing view in the left sidebar, then double-click a configuration file or code file in the project to open it. Modify code directly in the preview area; on save, the plugin automatically handles the merge with the disk file. -
Mind map mode:
Click the “Mind Map” button in the session list to enter the mind map view. The chat on the right remains visible, allowing you to continue the conversation. In the mind map, click any turn card to fork a new branch and make targeted modifications. -
Context reference:
After opening a file in the editor, the model automatically obtains the file contents. You can also manually use<opened_file>or<selection>tags in the input box to explicitly reference specific content.
Limitations and Dependencies¶
When using this plugin, please note the following limitations:
- File type restrictions: Binary files, non-UTF-8 encoded files, and symbolic links outside the workspace are rejected.
- Read-only files: Truncated large files, files with mixed line endings, and paths accessed via symbolic links are read-only in the editor.
- Host service dependencies: Preview for PDF and Office documents (.doc, .ppt, .xls, etc.) requires the Harness Host to provide document conversion services.
- Browser engine dependency: The scrollbar markers feature depends on the Chromium engine (Chrome / Edge / desktop), while Firefox only displays a basic scrollbar.
Conclusion¶
@yishengjun8/dsh-workspace-studio provides DSH users with a complete workflow solution from conversation to code editing.
