Preface

When using DeepSeek Harness (DSH), developers need to continuously monitor Token consumption, task status, and balance changes. If a tool only provides backend data without intuitive feedback, important information may be easily missed. The dsh-whale-pet plugin combines a browser floating widget with an always-on-top Windows desktop pet, offering a dual-form companion experience. It centralizes balance, task, and consumption data, and also supports interaction and notification features.

Plugin Overview

The plugin is named dsh-whale-pet and is maintained by user dleaf6211-hash. It provides a companion-style desktop pet for DSH, including a whale-girl floating widget in the bottom-right corner of the browser and an always-on-top Windows desktop pet. Both forms share the same data source. All data is stored locally only. Voice clips and character illustrations are included in the package, and no telemetry data is reported.

Installation and Enablement

Install it using the npm prebuilt package. The command is as follows:

dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-whale-pet-plugin

After installation, you need to restart Harness or the corresponding profile. A whale-girl will appear in the bottom-right corner of the browser. The desktop pet is not launched automatically by default. To start it, either click the “Launch Desktop Pet” button on the browser signboard, or enable the “Auto-launch Desktop Pet” option in settings.

Core Features

  • Balance and Usage Signboard: Displays the real-time DeepSeek balance, session consumption, monthly consumption, and consumption difference, with one-click refresh supported. The signboard can switch to the Token usage view (calls/input/output/cache).
  • Task Notifications: When a session, subtask, workflow, or background task completes, fails, waits for approval, or requires assistance, the signboard shows a notification and triggers a voice broadcast. Completion notifications include the actual cost of the current task.
  • Head-Pat Interaction: Hover the mouse over the whale-girl’s head for about 0.7 seconds to trigger shy stickers, hearts, and head-pat dialogue.
  • Dialogue and Voice: Includes 19 emotion-rich dialogue lines. Pre-synthesized voice clips are distributed with the package, work offline, and require no TTS service calls.
  • Windows Desktop Pet: An always-on-top small WPF window that stays in sync with the browser pet in both dialogue and notifications. Click the eye icon in the top-right corner of the desktop pet to enter transparent mode (mouse pass-through). Hover over the eye and click again to exit.
  • Do Not Disturb and Low Balance: You can configure mute periods. Muting only silences notifications; the pet remains visible. However, approval and “assistance needed” reminders are not affected. A reminder will appear when the balance drops below 5 CNY.
  • Settings Panel: Provides configuration options such as random dialogue switch, voice switch, pet size, auto-launch, low-balance reminder, and Do Not Disturb periods.

Typical Usage

  • Switch Views: Click “View Usage” or “View Balance” on the signboard to switch the displayed content.
  • Refresh Data: Click “Refresh” on the signboard to fetch the latest balance immediately.
  • Input Box Interaction: Enter content in any input field in DSH, and the whale-girl will automatically display a dialogue line.
  • Transparent Mode: Click the eye icon in the top-right corner of the desktop pet to enter transparent mode (mouse pass-through). Hover over the eye and click again to exit.

Notes

  • System Requirements: The browser pet supports any operating system; the Windows desktop pet is built with PowerShell + WPF and only supports Windows.
  • Upgrade Errors: When upgrading the plugin, if the desktop pet process locks the plugin directory, an EPERM rename error may occur. You must first fully exit the desktop pet and DSH, then run the upgrade command.
  • Privacy: All data is stored locally only, and no telemetry data is reported.
