Introduction

The ecosystem philosophy of DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is “everything is a plugin.” When developing or interacting with agents, you often need to temporarily ask the model a question, calculate a value, or check a code snippet, without polluting the current conversation history or consuming context window budget. The dsh-btw plugin provides behavior similar to /btw in Claude Code, enabling one-off Q&A in DSH that is not recorded in conversation memory.

Plugin Overview

dsh-btw is a global command plugin that registers the /btw command. This command initiates an isolated, one-time model request. The answer is rendered as a persistent command node in the conversation flow, but it is not written to any conversation message (it does not create user messages, assistant messages, or conversation events), so it does not affect memory in subsequent turns.

Core Features

  1. Global scope: Available in any agent preset / mode / session under a profile, without needing to configure each preset separately.
  2. Detached instant clearing: The composer is cleared immediately when triggered and is not queued. It can be triggered anytime, even when the main agent is busy, because the command goes through the pipeline rather than the message queue.
  3. Reuses the current model: Preferentially reuses the provider/model routing of the most recent request in the current session, then falls back to the agent’s own configuration; if neither exists, it returns a clear error.
  4. Read-only context concatenation: Automatically carries up to the latest 40 user/assistant messages (with a total limit of 32000 characters) as read-only background, allowing the question to reference conversation content.
  5. Zero runtime dependencies: The build output is pure ESM, does not import any runtime packages, and avoids dependency version drift caused by the harness.
  6. Cancellable: Forwards the UI request’s AbortSignal to the underlying stream and supports interruption.

Installation and Enablement

Prerequisites: the dsh CLI is installed and the target profile exists (the default GUI profile name is web).

Install from GitHub:

dsh plugin --profile web add github:clclyzybzjsq/dsh-btw

Note: Installing from Git fetches the source code rather than the build artifacts, so pnpm will run the package’s prepare script. If you use pnpm >= 10, the first add may fail. In this case, copy the package key into the profile’s pnpm-workspace.yaml:

allowBuilds:
  dsh-btw: true

Then rerun add. Pinning the commit is recommended for safety.

Typical Usage

The command clears the input immediately after being triggered in the input box and continues execution in the background:

  • /btw What is this function meant to do?
  • /btw Calculate 0x2F & 0x0F

Use Cases and Notes

  • Version compatibility: This plugin is only guaranteed to work with the v0.1.1 baseline version of the official DeepSeek Harness repository (tag dsh-v0.1.1; the local development baseline is dsh-v0.1.1-rc.2). It is not guaranteed to work correctly on higher official repository versions (v0.1.2 and later). Validate before upgrading the harness.
  • Permissions and security: The plugin runs with the permissions of the current dsh process. Before installing, review the source code and license to ensure you trust it.
  • Dependency management: pnpm >= 10 refuses by default to run prepare for Git dependencies; allow it in pnpm-workspace.yaml as described above.

Summary

The dsh-btw plugin uses a command definition in detached mode to solve the pain point of asking temporary questions in DSH without polluting conversation memory. It reuses the current model routing, has zero dependencies, and suits scenarios where you need quick answers without increasing context overhead.
