DeepSeek Harness (DSH) supports extending its functionality through plugins. For developers accustomed to monitoring token consumption and context usage in code or the terminal, the lack of intuitive visual feedback can affect the user experience. This plugin provides a desktop widget in the DSH desktop environment, displaying DeepSeek balance, usage, and context usage in real time, while also offering interactive physical feedback.
Feature Overview¶
The widget includes the following core features:
- Whale Girl artwork: The image and sound effects are embedded, with no network dependency.
- Resource monitoring: Displays balance, usage, and context usage progress bars in real time (with proactive reminders at ≥90%), and provides peak/off-peak reminders.
- Interaction and easter eggs: Supports drag-throw and bounce interaction, middle-button slingshot throwing, right-click menu configuration, easter-egg bubbles, and sound-effect switching.
- Performance tuning: Provides power-saving mode, frosted-glass intensity adjustment, base-plate transparency adjustment, and other features.
Installation and Activation¶
Install the plugin using the DSH command-line tool:
dsh plugin add nickkkkkk123123/dsh-whale-girl
After installation is complete, the Whale Girl will appear by default in the bottom-right corner of DSH Desktop.
Usage¶
- Display and interaction: The Whale Girl is displayed in the bottom-right corner of DSH Desktop. Hold the middle mouse button and drag to perform a slingshot throw; after releasing, the widget launches from its release position.
- Configuration changes: Right-click the widget and modify settings through the visual menu, such as switching sound effects, adjusting slingshot strength, and enabling power-saving mode.
- Easter-egg triggering: Clicking the widget can trigger a random line or easter egg; after 2–5 minutes of inactivity, the widget will also speak automatically.
Configuration Details¶
Widget configuration is stored in ~/.dsh/.whale-girl-config.json. You can modify it visually through the right-click menu, or edit the file directly:
{
"soundMode": "cute",
"showProgress": true,
"showBubble": true,
"showBalance": true,
"showPeak": true,
"slingPower": 20,
"ecoMode": true,
"frost": 4,
"panelOpacity": 0.82,
"lowBalance": 10
}

showProgress |
Whether to display the context usage progress bar |
showBubble |
Whether to display easter-egg/random-line bubbles |
showBalance |
Whether to display the balance in the details |
showPeak |
Whether to display peak/off-peak reminders |

Frosted-glass intensity (0–16); 0 disables it |
panelOpacity |
Base-plate and menu opacity (0.2–1); the default 0.82 corresponds to 18% opacity |

Balance warning threshold (yuan); values below this threshold trigger a bubble reminder; 0 disables it |
Notes¶
- Streaming-output stuttering: When DSH is producing streaming output, the widget may stutter. This is caused by DSH’s official streaming rendering bottleneck, not by this plugin.
- Network dependency: The image and sound effects are embedded and can be used without network requests.
- Data residue: After uninstalling the plugin, data files such as
.whale-girl-config.jsonand.whale-girl-usage.jsonmay remain in theDSH_HOMEdirectory (default:~/.dsh); manual deletion is required for complete cleanup. - API Key:
DEEPSEEK_API_KEYmust be configured in DSH in order to read balance information. - Resource usage: The installation package is approximately 346KB, does not spawn additional processes, but during streaming output it may be affected by DSH main-process performance.
