Introduction

DeepSeek Harness (DSH) adopts a plugin-based architecture, allowing developers to extend functionality according to their needs. When running and debugging locally, developers need a clear view of the current system status (such as whether the model is working or context compression is in progress) and resource consumption (token usage and cost). Log files are detailed, but they are not intuitive during debugging. dsh-token-pet aims to use a cute chibi character resident on the desktop to transform DSH background events (requests, tool calls, compression, archiving, etc.) into visualized animations and data panels, making status feedback immediately visible while also providing token statistics and cost estimation.

Plugin Overview

dsh-token-pet is a plugin for DeepSeek Harness Desktop that provides a floating desktop pet, runtime status feedback, and token/context visualization.

  • Author: Jimmy0123-ux
  • Category: Fun customization
  • License: MIT
  • Core Value: Transforms background events into visualized status; provides a cross-session token ledger and cost estimation; integrates a local prompt enhancement workflow.

Core Features

The plugin mainly includes the following functional modules:

Runtime Status Visualization

The system transforms actual DSH events, such as current requests, tool calls, context compression, session archiving, and prompt enhancement, into 12 frame-by-frame animations. Without opening logs, users can see via the status badge in the top-right corner of the pet whether the system is currently idle, working, compressing, tool completed/failed, or generating prompts.

Real-Time Context Display

The context usage ratio is displayed in real time below the pet. Together with an independent draggable floating window, users can view detailed data for the current session, including rounds, steps, model duration, and token categories.

Cross-Session Lifetime Ledger

The plugin maintains a lifetime usage ledger across sessions. Even if the source session is archived or deleted, the ledger retains cumulative values, making long-term usage tracking convenient.

Cost Estimation and Budget

By default, cost information is not displayed. Users can enable “Show Cost Estimation” in Settings. Once enabled, the plugin locally estimates monthly costs and per-model costs based on a pricing table, and supports setting a monthly budget. When costs exceed the limit, the pet plays a warning animation.

Data Analysis and Management

  • Model and Trend Analysis: Supports statistics by provider, model, and date, and provides aggregated trends for the last 7 or 30 days (according to the local timezone).
  • Session Cost Ranking: Displays the list of sessions that consume the most tokens.
  • Data Export: Supports exporting usage statistics in JSON or CSV format (numbers only, no conversation content).

Prompt Enhancement Workflow

Integrates local MIT Prompt Optimizer rules. Users can preview, edit, override, append to, or roll back prompts in a standalone drawer, and send them directly to DSH Composer.

Interface and Interaction

  • Theme Switching: Supports dark (default) / light themes, with instant one-click switching.
  • Skin System: Built-in 4 color skins, and supports importing local skin ZIP files.
  • Low-Interruption Design: Uses pure snapshot-based panel reading and background incremental indexing, avoiding full session scans when opening the interface and ensuring smooth performance.

Installation and Enablement

Note: This is a Web interface plugin and can only display the pet within DSH’s Web interface. The host environment must include the Web UI component (@deepseek-ai/dsh-web-app).

Command-Line Installation

If DSH is started via the command line, you can use the following command to install:

# 网页版
dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-token-pet

# 桌面版
dsh plugin --profile desktop add dsh-token-pet

After installation, restart DSH (or refresh the Web page) to activate the plugin.

Typical Usage

  1. Switch theme: In Settings → Appearance, select “Light” or “Dark,” and the interface theme will switch instantly.
  2. View costs: In Settings → Cost and Budget, check “Show Cost Estimation”; the “Overview” in the floating window will show a cost card and monthly budget progress bar.
  3. Export data: On the Settings page, choose to export usage statistics in JSON or CSV format.
  4. Set notification sound: In Floating Window Settings → Language and Notifications, enable “Completion Sound,” and a notification sound will play after a session completes successfully.
  5. Prompt enhancement: After editing the prompt in the Prompt Enhancement drawer, click “Send Directly” to submit it to DSH.

Notes

  • Environment Dependency: The plugin depends on the host including the Web UI component. If you see a “missing WebUI component” prompt, confirm that the target profile (web or desktop) includes @deepseek-ai/dsh-web-app.
  • Version Requirement: Requires Node.js version >= 22.19.
  • Local Processing: Cost estimation is for local reference only; it does not request any external pricing API, nor does it upload usage data.
  • Privacy Protection: Only numeric values are collected; no conversation content is included.
  • Skin Import: When importing a local skin ZIP, the client validates path and size (limit 24MiB / 64MiB).

Summary

dsh-token-pet addresses DSH developers’ monitoring needs for runtime status and resource consumption through visualization, while also providing practical cost tracking and prompt enhancement tools. Its lightweight design and low-interruption performance optimizations allow it to integrate seamlessly into daily development workflows.
