Introduction¶
The default background of the DSH Web interface is usually quite simple. For developers or users who want to leverage local Wallpaper Engine resources, a solution is needed to seamlessly integrate dynamic wallpapers into the background of dsh web. This plugin cooperates between the host and client to implement wallpaper discovery, rendering, and interface integration.
Plugin Introduction¶
This is a DSH plugin whose core function is turning local Wallpaper Engine wallpapers into the background of the DSH web interface.
- Core capabilities: Supports Video (direct playback), Web (iframe loading), and Scene (extracting the main texture as a static frame or real-time rendering) types.
- Maintainer: elysia395.
- Open-source license: MIT.
Core Features¶
The plugin provides full control capabilities from rendering to the interface:
- Real-time rendering and downscaling: Supports real-time rendering for Scene and Web wallpapers. Features high-frame-rate source downscaling (transcoding to 4K/AV1) to reduce GPU usage; supports pause on occlusion (pauses when minimized, out of focus, or on battery power).
- iOS-style Liquid Glass UI: Applies Liquid Glass restyling to the settings window, fonts, cursor, mascot, and sidebar, with adjustable color scheme, glass color, and transparency.
- Wallpaper management: Automatically detects local Wallpaper Engine installations. Supports content rating and type filtering (All/Everyone/PG13/Mature/Unrated, All/Video/Web/Image/Scene). Supports custom wallpaper uploads, with vinyl record display, video playback speed and flipping, and automatic rotation features.
Installation and Activation¶
To install the plugin, you need the official command-line tool.
- Run the install command:
dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-plugin-wallpaper-engine
- After installation, restart
dsh weband open Settings to view Wallpaper Engine related options.
Typical Usage¶
- Enable wallpaper: Restart
dsh weband open Settings; the wallpaper can then be detected and used. - Select wallpaper: Use the selection popup to browse wallpaper thumbnails and make a selection, supporting batch hiding and restoration.
- Control playback: Use pause/play controls for video wallpapers, or use close to clear the wallpaper.
- View progress: You can view the real-time transcoding progress bar on the Settings page.
Notes¶
- System differences: macOS does not have a native Wallpaper Engine client; use a community-maintained macOS version (such as
dsh-plugin-wallpaper-engine-mac). - Type limitations: Application-type wallpapers are not supported.
- Compatibility: Web wallpapers may cause 403 errors in unofficial desktop shells.
- Dependencies: Depends on ffmpeg for high-frame-rate transcoding.
- Prerequisite update: Before installing, update the DSH kernel and
dsh-better-sidebarto their latest versions.
Conclusion¶
By combining local rendering with a Liquid Glass style, this plugin enriches the expressiveness of the DSH Web interface. For more technical details and source code, refer to the plugin directory and GitHub repository.
