Introduction

The core design philosophy of DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is “everything is a plugin.” Developers can extend the functional boundaries of the Web UI through plugins. During agent development and debugging, the chat interface often serves merely as a container for information exchange. The dsh-pet-sprite plugin embeds an interactive pixel character into the chat stream, turning the chat interface into a platform that combines entertainment with nurturing mechanics.

Plugin Overview

dsh-pet-sprite is a playable pixel companion plugin for DeepSeek Harness (DSH) Web UI, maintained by BlackBearCC. It is not a static wallpaper or sticker; instead, it is a character entity that runs directly in the chat area. The plugin integrates platformer gameplay and a character-nurturing system, using real-time Token resources from the LLM already configured in DSH to drive its behavior and growth.

Core Features

1. Hatching and Customizing Your Companion

After the plugin starts, a mottled egg appears in the corner of the chat. Click it to hatch and choose one as your initial companion from Poka (a white-haired girl), Mikan (a tabby cat), and Puff (a deep-blue calf whale). You can switch companions at any time in the care panel.

Custom companion generation is supported: enter a one-sentence description (such as “a green dinosaur wearing round glasses”), consume 100 star coins, and the model will generate a pixel image and animate it automatically. The generated pet can be exported as a .dsh-pet.json file for others to import for free.

2. Conversation and Interaction

Left-click the pet to open a small side chat box. Replies directly call the model already configured in DSH (the Provider and Model can be switched in the care panel settings), with no additional API Key required. Conversations keep 30 turns of local history.

3. Platformer Gameplay

The pet treats chat message bubbles as physical platforms. While idle, it automatically roams and climbs along the edges of the bubbles. You can click a blank area in the chat to take control.

4. Player Controls

Controls use the WASD system:
* A / D: Move left or right.
* Space: Jump (double tapping in the air triggers a skill jump).
* W: Climb upward.
* S: Drop through a platform.
After taking control, the pet automatically returns to autonomous roaming mode if idle for 10 seconds.

5. State Reactions and Nurturing

State Reactions: When the model is streaming output, the pet sits nearby and types; while idle, it blinks, strolls, or sleeps. Each companion has unique ambient sounds.
Nurturing System: Includes three attributes—mood, energy, and health—with decay and interlinked mechanics. Character level ranges from 1 to 100, with titles, coins, and inventory.
Token-Bound Economy: Input Tokens consume pet energy; response Tokens are converted into experience points; the first daily open grants login coins. Leveling up slows attribute decay.

Installation and Activation

Run the following command in your terminal to install the plugin:

dsh plugin --profile web add github:BlackBearCC/dsh-pet-sprite

After installation, restart DSH (dsh web) and open any conversation. The pet will appear at the bottom of the chat stream.

Typical Usage

  • Chat: Left-click the pet and talk to it using the model already configured in DSH.
  • Take Control: Click a blank area in the chat and use the keyboard WASD keys to control the pet’s jumping.
  • Manage: Right-click the pet to open the care panel, where you can view status, interaction, inventory, shop, and settings.

Notes

  • Compatibility: Currently tested against the DSH developer preview (version 0.1.0-rc.7). DSH iterates quickly and may introduce breaking updates; for a stable environment, it is recommended to pin the plugin commit.
  • Dependencies: Requires Node.js version >= 22.19.0.
  • Privacy and Network: The plugin has no telemetry, does not make any external network requests, and stores all state data in localStorage. Its lib/ directory already includes compiled output, so Git installation does not require authorizing build scripts.
  • License: MIT License.

Conclusion

dsh-pet-sprite extends the DSH chat experience beyond simple text interaction into entity interaction and resource management. If you want to make the conversational interface more fun, or need to drive a lightweight nurturing system through Token usage, this is a ready-to-integrate solution.
