In the task orchestration or agent development scenarios of DeepSeek Harness (DSH), when long-running agents execute tasks in the background, developers often cannot perceive task progress in real time. The dsh-task-notify plugin aims to address this pain point by invoking native operating system notification mechanisms to display intuitive visual feedback on the desktop when specific task states occur, such as goal completion or the end of an agent turn.
This is a DSH plugin maintained by developer YuMo226. It does not rely on a complex runtime environment but directly uses the operating system’s native notification services, ensuring a consistent experience on Windows, macOS, and Linux.
Core Features¶
- Native OS Notifications: Supports Windows Toast, macOS Notification Center, and Linux libnotify. Notifications are displayed as system-native banners and do not block the main DSH process.
- Dual Trigger Support: Supports configuring two trigger conditions:
onGoalComplete: Triggered when the goal state becomescomplete.onTurnEnd: Triggered when an agent turn ends normally.
- Zero Runtime Dependencies: Uses only built-in Node.js modules and command-line tools provided by the system, such as PowerShell, osascript, and notify-send, without requiring additional third-party libraries.
- CJK Text Safety: Optimized for Chinese environments. On Windows, text is transferred via a temporary UTF-8 file to prevent Chinese characters from becoming garbled.
- Debounce Mechanism: Includes a minimum interval limit to prevent too many notifications from being sent in a short period and disturbing the user.
Installation and Enablement¶
Install it through DSH’s plugin manager. After installation, restart the dsh web process to activate the plugin.
dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-task-notify
After installation is complete, you need to add a plugin instance to the configuration file. The following is a configuration example that enables “goal completion” and “turn end” notifications and sets the minimum interval to 4000 milliseconds:
- insert:
- id: notify
name: dsh-task-notify
config:
onGoalComplete: true
onTurnEnd: true
title: 'DeepSeek Harness'
minIntervalMs: 4000
Use Cases and Notes¶
- Platform Dependencies:
- Windows: Ensure that the system notification center is enabled and that “Focus Assist” is not set to “Alarms Only” or “Priority Only”.
- macOS: Depends on the
osascriptcommand. Compatible with macOS 10.8 and later. - Linux: Preferentially uses
notify-send(requireslibnotifyto be installed). If libnotify is not installed on the system, the plugin attempts to fall back tozenityorkdialog.
- Troubleshooting via Logs: All notification attempts and failure reasons are recorded in a log file under the user directory:
<home>/task-notify.log. If notifications are not received, check this log file first.
dsh-task-notify reduces the cost of state confirmation in agent development through lightweight system-level notifications. For more details or to report issues, visit the GitHub repository.
